The thing with the Pagani Zonda is it almost looks like a cutom bat mobileish type of car to the untrained eye. Just the other I was looking at few on extotic spotters and my freind said it looks like a kit car. In my opinion I whould love to see a veyron.
Since I consider the performance along with the shock value, I still think the F1s top speed is the most impressive of all, because the engine is normally aspirated (NO TURBOS, NO SUPERCHARGERS). A true mechanical masterpiece. Koenigsegg's suprchrgd, and the Veyron doesnt impress me at all. Sure, how many cars on that list would have 1000hp and crack 250mph with 4 turbos and 16 cylinders (one turbo per 4cylinders)? To me it's kind of like cheating. Anytime I see those vids on youtube showing the Veyron's acceration or whatever I just cant get myself to be impressed. By the way, why haven't we seen a Nurburgring time or real track run on video with this thing (Veyron)? It's always straight line stuff. oh yeah 1)Zonda F , 2)Enzo (in black, Batmobile revisited) 3)McClarenF1 (how can you deny the center F1seating)
its not about performance, its purely style, thats why I chose the zonda, though in reflection, the MC12 may have stolen my vote... it is amazing, and you cannot joke about its exoticness (whatever that is) cheers to the photographers, I think it was jason on the second one? I think performance adds to the "exoticness". The "rarer" the performance the "rarer" the car (nice use of words huh). Zonda #1 for me too, but I forgot about the MC12. Maybe it bumps the Enzo out.
I voted for the Enzo simply because NOTHING looks like an Enzo. Whether you love it as I do, or hate the looks of it. The Enzo looks flat out alien. All Lambos look alike to me, they all have the same basic shape, windshield & door design. They aren't exotic anymore in a sense because the Diablo & Murcielago are just evolutions of the Countach. Its been what? Almost 40 years of the same car evolving? The interrior on the Zonda looks more exotic than the exterrior. Enzo gets my vote.
Let me set the record straight as he is partially correct. There were indeed 28 GTRs, so if you only count 100 F1s in total (as McLaren often prefer to do) then the other 72 were indeed road versions. In fact, 106 McLaren F1s (plus one spare chassis) were built from Dec 1992 to May 1998 - subtracting 28 from 106 gives you 78 street versions instead. The breakdown of chassis types and configurations goes like this: 5 - F1 road car (proto) 64 - F1 road cars (prod) 1 - F1 LM (proto) 5 - F1 LMs (prod) 9 - '95-spec F1 GTRs 9 - '96 spec F1 GTRs 10 - '97-spec F1 GTR longtails 1 - F1 GT longtail road car (proto) 2 - F1 GT longtail road car (prod) 1 - spare chassis By production year, it looks like this: 1992 (1) = 1 - F1 road car (proto) 1993 (5) = 4 - F1 road cars (proto); 1 - F1 road car (prod) 1994 (24) = 24 - F1 road cars (prod) 1995 (26) = 15 - F1 road cars (prod); 9 - '95-spec F1 GTRs; 1 - '96 spec F1 GTR; 1 - F1 LM (proto) 1996 (21) = 7 - F1 road cars (prod), 8 '96-spec F1 GTRs; 5 - F1 LMs (prod); 1 - '97-spec F1 GTR longtail 1997 (23) = 11 - F1 road cars (prod); 9 - '97-spec F1 GTR longtails; 1 - 1 - F1 GT longtail road car (proto); 2 - F1 GT longtail road cars (prod) 1998 (7) = 6 - F1 road cars (prod); 1 - spare chassis The LMs were actually near copies of the original '95-spec F1 GTRs with only minimal changes required for road certification and subtle creature comforts. Much like the 360 Challenge Stradale or F430 Scuderia are road versions of a race car that was originally based on a road car, the LMs were produced under similar circumstances. They should most definitely be counted as street versions - there is even one registered for road use in the USA. Where the numbers get messy is really McLaren's fault. Their "official" line has often been that 100 cars were produced even though tons of evidence, much of which was provided by McLaren themselves when "Driving Ambition" was released, contradicts that assessment. In stating 100, they are neglecting to count the original 5 F1 road car prototypes (3 of which still exist today) and the 1 F1 GT prototype. Why they ever chose to do this I won't quite understand. I guess "100" just rolls off the tongue easier than "106"...? As noted on the above list, there were indeed a total of six LMs produced. The prototype, chassis XP1 LM, was built in 1995 following McLaren's success at the 24 Hrs of LeMans. The five production LMs, chassis' LM1-LM5, were built in 1996 to commemorate the 5 F1s that completed the 1995 race, finishing 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 13th overall. Four of the six were painted "Historic 'Papaya' Orange" while the remaining two (chassis' LM1 & LM4) were finished in black w/graphics for the Brunei Royal Family. Sorry for the slight deviation from the original topic here. I do hope that clears up the story for everyone. >8^) ER
Im suprised nobody says Caparo or Gumpert. Personally, I agreed most with the Panoz vote. But the Carbontech Redback Spyder was at the 2006 Melbourne Motorshow, and she's pretty exotic... Best, Jon Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great thread----the McLaren F1 is the holy grail. Saleen-ehh-I agree a cartoon some 3rd grader came up with. Scoops to the Nth degree... Too many of the "exotics" are kit-carish in these discussions. Still say that DeTomaso outdid the Lamborghini Countach with its Pantera yrs before.
To my mind greates supercars made ever were Mclaren F1, as greatest supercar on the planet Earth and second is ENZO, first F1 techologies successfull transplantant to the road-legal car. Thats my opinion. Best.
Oh no, don't get me wrong, the thing looks worse than Opra without make-up but it sure is exotic. Panoz builds a more "together" looking car though and the MC12 is amongst the best as well... Best, Jon
The most exotic looking cars I think that would turn the heads of the most 'normal' people would be the Maserati MC12 and the Mercedes CLK-GTR, just based on the sheer size, lowness, and the fact that they look exactly like racecars for the track
in first, Vector W8 Twin Turbo in second, Lamborghini Countach LP5000 SS Q. after, Veyron, Enzo, Zonda F coupe & roadster, MC12, MC Laren SLR coupe & roadster, Avtech coupe & roadster, Porsche 962 (Dauer/Koenig,Shuppan) and Ferrari Pininfarina P4/5, very nice look too...... 1st place for the Zonda (top of th line) , 2nd for my beloved Countach....the car that came from an outer planet
To me: Pagani Zonda F. It's all about madness and perfection in one atomic package. Saleen is to me a kit car, the McLaren F1 a race car for the streets, the F50 was a close second, the F40 and Enzo are great but seen too much publicity the last years so my desire for them has went down a bit. I have never seen a 288 GTO in real life so I don't know where it stands in terms of standing out. The Veyron is exotic but no sharp scalpel, but a loaded canon. I take a Pagani Zonda F please - it ranks as my personal #1 desire. I hope I get there some day, but if I don't I'd be just as happy with a Scuderia Probably not as exotic or breathtakingly beautiful but I will probably have 98% of the fun in the Scuderia as well...
I clarified this for him (and you) already in great detail in my post on the previous page - Link. >8^) ER
F50 & CLK GTR from the modern era. But there are also lots of impressive classics, with the Rolls Royce Phantom I Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe being the most exotic I guess. Or an Isotta Fraschini 8B... yum
