OK F-chatters, call me stupid. I just forked out $1650 for a French Bulldog puppy for my kiddos. Before you laugh, I did an exhaustive research on the "best" breed for my particular situation, and sure enough, it was the Frenchie.

I'm no dog expert, but is this way out of line for a pooch? It wasn't bad for a Frenchie, but I was curious as to what some of the rest of you have had to fork out for a dog.

    COOL choice!

I paid $800 for an English Bulldog in 1982.

Addendum: We're now into the volunteer type of yard mutt.

Paid $200 for my dog. She's a beagle/poodle/shelty mix. Wouldn't trade her for the world, most expensive dog or even a Ferrari. You can't put a price on a dog IMO. They become a part of the family, and I wouldn't let anything bad happen to her even if it meant she needed million dollar surgery i'd find a way.

I think we paid 500 for our German Sheperd. So I guess that is not crazy. Maybe they are the "bugatti" of dogs.

My wife paid about $1750 AUD for our Cocker Spaniel. Its a purebred that was the runt from a litter from Two Award Winning dogs. She is very dirty and cheeky not to mention she has a "thing" for Tennis Balls...

She is getting back to her "Gun-Dog" instincts.....

Sounds like those wheels you got were a bargin! If I had known just how rich you were......:) Enjoy, we love our 11 year old $500 Scottie. Do I need to add in the vet expenses over the years? Well he just may add up to around $5K! He doesn't even have a trade-in value.

Look at it on a per pound basis.

Ask Spicy how much we spent on sugar gliders.

I don't question the pet budget, she doesn't question the invoices from Ferrari UK...

I have been looking for an English Bulldog for the past 3 months. I just can not come to paying up to 2k for a proper bullie. Most puppies are in the 1500-2k range. Ugh.

Good choice on the Frenchie. I have been torn between the two, but mostly looking at the English.

A buddy of mine has a mutt named "Turbo" cause the damn thing ran in front of a car and racked up thousands in vet bills, the same day we pulled the twin turbos and motor out of his Dodge Stealth VR4 to be rebuilt. A year later, the dog still limps and the car is still in pieces. I've never had a dog, or kids that love a dog, so I just don't get it.

Is the $4,000 one a swiss mountain dog? Or is it an australian shepherd that swallowed a $3,500 tennis bracelet? :)

That sounds about right for a decent purebred Shepherd, especially in a smaller city.

We used to sell purebred white German Shepherds without papers for $250 each, and I think now it was too cheap as everyone who came and looked bought!

Our huskies had papers, but we always bought them a little older (2-3 years) and we'd pay $150-200 for dogs that were $700 puppies. :)

I got a JRT from a friend and she is a great dog, great with my twin boys who are now 2.5 years old. But last time I was in Southern California the yorkies were going $1800 and more... I thought that was out of line but apparently NOT!

That's a Bernese Mountain dog imported to Hawaii via Australia's top breeder.

$2200+ for the pup, and 1800 to get her to HI.
