While not usually a fan of scaled replica warbirds, this is the most amazing ever in history that I have seen. And a tribute to pure enthusiasm for aviation by its builders. If you understand anything about what it takes to build an airplane from scratch, you will be dumbstruck with awe and admiration.

Wow! I am in awe, as you said I would be. That is an unbelievable amount of work to undertake.

I have always loved the mosquito, it's one of my favorite WWII aircraft. It has great lines, performed it's duty well, and has a neat story behind it's design and construction. I just wish I could read French so I could understand the website! Do you know what engines they used to power this replica?

Speaking of scale mosquito models, I will offer my very humble contribution to this mosquito thread. A bit smaller in scale than the one these guys built, but considerably cheaper at only $119 ready to fly. And I don't even have to leave my backyard to fly it!

In any scale, the mosquito is a beautiful aircraft!

Thanks for posting that, Russ. Very interesting and I agree, an amazing accomplishment. I, too, am interested in what type of engine was used. They sound a lot like the popping Merlins on a real Mosquito. I knew an ex-RCAF pilot who flew them as a night fighter and had 13 night victories in one.He said that it had the worst cockpit layout of anything that he flew. Thanks

After watching that video of the first flight I have a feeling that single engine performance would be dicey with such a small vertical tail. A pilot would have to be sharp , quick, and aggressive if an engine quits on take off. Looks like the pilot was quick enough to stop a developing ground loop on the first landing. Still curious about the engine type on that aircraft.

The valve covers are from a Continental. Likely either a O-470 or O-520. Maybe somebody with a better or faster eye can figure out what model. The constant speed props are also decent size, from something like a 182/210/Bonanza. Look at 12:30 in the clip when they take the cowlings off and there is a quick shot of the engine.

As you can probably guess, I'm not too sharp on the more modern stuff. If a responsible designer was a part of that team I assume that he designed for enough power to stay aloft on one engine. I saw one of those at Langley Field and they are marvelous airplanes. Took the measure of the P-38 there.

Hence the non-stock looking bulges on the sides of the nacelles.

And the rocker covers don't look like any O-470 or 520 that I've seen, but I haven't seen that many.

    Thank you for posting.

Here is the rest of the story, new video of the plane. Filmed flying from inside and painting it to the WW II paint.
