So who takes the cake. What is undeniably the most original vintage Ferrari out there. I mean cars that have not been molested at all. Original eveything, and of course it doesn't matter if it is a garage queen or not. I really like Tom S. Europa, but I think it was repainted at some point. Any others?
Who has the most original specimen on the planet?

For your consideration, here's my totally original, unmolested, almost complete (missing the driver's side visor, interior grab handles and gas-tank filler cover) 1964 330 GT 2+2 (right-hand drive). A true barn find that sat unloved for 20 years in a Southern California garage. The side vents were off to replace the rotten heater hoses.

Still debating whether to restore or leave be.

The only original ones are the ones sitting at the factory awaiting shipment.

    It's all downhill from there.

So what your saying is that your car no longer has its original heater hoses? Sorry.... no longer an original car. :)

Tires? Oil? Magical Maranello air dating to original for the tires? original spark plugs and wires? How about the original points and condenser for the distributor?

What makes folks think that paint is any less a wear item than tires?

I find the entire "original" thing to be absurd.

    beng,

I love it! Personally I like the beater Ferrari look, yours takes it to the extreme - its not even a 50 footer! I also like the miniature driver that comes with the car.

Mine is cosmetically original but mechanically redone so, I don't win the originality award.

Regarding most original, I think there was a black superammerica in forza or one of the other magazines recently that is a contender. There is also a green Superfast that is highly original.

I know it's been on here before but insn't there a yellow Spider (340 or 375) with green interior that is not only original but still with the first owner?

    Mrs Day, perhaps?

These are cars that were made to be driven and enjoyed. Things break and get worn out from use or age. You then repalce them with the proper original parts or as original as you can get. When you crash the car it is repaired as best as you can using the proper techniques.Thats the best we can do.

    scott,

The GTO is unrestored but it did have a few battle scars from it's racing days (I think the old photos thread has a picture of it on its roof), so the paint is old but I doubt it is the original.

    vuntage V12 nut,

I agree with you attitude about but I think the purpose of this thread to find the car that has been a trailerqueen since new.

    Regards,

    Art S.

PS. I think there is an article about a 250 lusso that is/was completely original, down to the battery - it was in a magazine printed a within the last couple of years.

    Art,

I'm not really sure if the car was repainted or not. It very well may have been and probably was if it ended up on its roof. Or at the very least partially repainted. I think Dave Castellano would be the best person to ask that question to. The patina as it shows now is amazing with plenty of stories to tell. Would it have been a factory re-paint or privateer team job if this is the car that was indeed on its roof?

I never meant to offend with this thread. I am very interested in original cars whether they are in showroom condition or run into the ground like my 250GT.
Please do what you want with your property, but let the rest of enjoy some original car banter if you can.
I recently drove a 1964 330 with 3,000 miles on it. The only thing unoriginal is the oil filters, the battery, one hose clamp, and the oil and coolant. This car has the original brake fluid, as well as the original air in the original tires. Beat that.

Wouldn't Greg Garrison's un-driven Daytona Spyder count? Only 87 miles since new or something?

    Whatever happened to that car?

I like seeing old cars in original condition, its a great way to see how well (or not) they were built and to what standard the paint and body work etc were done.

No offense taken and I apologize if my post came off harsh at all! Sometimes the Internet doesnt deal with sarcasm and humor very well.

I like you car.... its definitely neat to see unrestored cars. In my opinion... you should clean up the interior but not replace anything (any split seams can be sewn) and then try and have the areas of peeling paint repainted and blended in order to preserve as much of the original paint as possible. If the paint is too far gone, have the car painted but try and keep as much of the original interior as is possible.

I also enjoy original car banter.... and my comments about true originality being all but impossible would qualify as banter wouldnt it?

So, what your telling me is that the car is not original. AFter all, if the battery and oil filters are not the same ones installed at the factory when the car was assembled... its not original.

You drove this car? Bad idea.... flat out dangerous. 40+ year old brake fluid will be worthless as it will have far too much water content. Original air still in 40 year old tires? Still at the correct pressure?

I dont wish to beat anything. I prefer cars I can drive the crap out of as they were meant to be driven.... not a car I have to baby along praying its not going to suffer terminal brake fade at any moment or blow a coolant hose or have a dry rotted tire blow out....

    Best!

    Scott,

In my eye it's very original, but from the perspective of this thread (original battery/tires/etc.), it is as last raced (which I personally think is much more interesting) rather than as it left the factory.

    Glassman,

I think Terry is trying to fill Arlie's role today ;)

The last couple of years at the Hartford Concourso a guy has parked next to me with his 330 GTC that he says is totally original-down to the tires (it certainly looks it!) He only drives the car to this particular event. The story I recall him relating to me was that the car was ordered by an American who picked it up in Italy. The car soon after had an accident and was sent back to the factory for a rebuild. The American returned home and the car was eventually shipped to him and he immediately placed it in hermetically (so it seems if true) sealed storage for reasons I do not recall. The car sat for 30+ years until it was purchased from his widow a short while back.

Apparently the guy also has a 246 with only 3500 miles that has never seen the light of day in his ownership!

Personally, I think authenticity is great, enabling the rest of us to repair/restore our cars properly......but this fellow is to my mind stretching authenticity to death. Even though he swears the tires are in great shape, I wouldn't want to be in the passenger seat around a fast corner!

What a waste of a good sports car......I wonder if the original owners last words or thoughts were: damm. I wish I drove those cars.......

This is the last Ferrari Lusso made. It used to live in the San Francisco Bay area, but it lives in Montana now. It is very original, including paint and interior.

It is featured in the book "Ferraris for the Road". At that time it lived in CA.

I saw this car at Concorso Italiano 2001 where it took the preservation award. The paint work was still like factory-fresh, but it was interesting to note all the imperfections and waves in it--- a commentary on how today's owners, restorers and judges have lost touch with reality.

Not necessarily. My friend is about 70 years old and has owned his 330 from new. Along with several other incredible exotics, he has kept them in perfect condition since the early 60's. This is a recluse who has no need for the outside world other than me delivering a stack of car magazines once a month, and having me come over occasionally to help him start and run the car. I don't think he has any regrets. This man loves his cars and hopes to pass them along to people who will cherish them as much as he does. To me he is an inspiration.

The GTO in post number 8 has been rebodied at least twice that I know of and has lots of work done to it over the years. It also has upholstered items added to its' interior which weren't there originally.
I agree with the statement by Napolis and believe the "completely original" notion to be impratical and over rated.

    David,

Is the GTO in post 8 the one that has been owned by the same owner since the '60s?

I didn't think that one was rebodied.
