There is talk of Porsche making a 2 door version of the Panamerica.

If they do, I hope it looks something like this, even if it is a fanboy photoshop.

OK, so I had my Ferrari head on and typed Panamerica instead of Panamera.

Well, if you want THE BEST handling Porsche you are not going to listen to the "Porsche fans" anyway because you are going to get a Cayman and NOT a 911, and if they build a new 928 (they will certainly give it a name vs a number designation) the "Porsche fan" will be left behind in his 911 AGAIN! At least according to one source the target for the "new 928" is the 599! Looking for greater than 600HP top speed over 200 and a cost above $250k! YOWZA! I won't have to worry about getting one of those till they are about 2 decades old I guess! It would certainly be SOME CAR (just as the 599 is!)

I do hope they will build it even if I can't afford one!

If they build it, and it looks remotely like the car in the photoshop, I will forgive Porsche for their sins (i.e. Cayenne and Panamera)

Panamera seems like another variation of the decades old 911 style as incorporated in the Ceyanne and Cayman.
    The 928 on the other hand is a different Porsche animal, and the only pcar I really liked and I loved their 2012 rendering here;

If I was Porsche, launching the Panamera in this market.... I'd be sitting around also...trying to figure out how to sell half the stock that we thought we were going to be able to sell before the bottom fell out of the economy. LOL cutting those big cars and half and calling it a 928 is a brilliant idea... give the employee who came up with that idea a week off with pay LOL

I wish you were right about this, since 928 in it's heyday was the absolute King of the Road.
Unfortunately, the new version (planned only if Panamera sells well and economy improves)will be based solely on that new 4 door ,carryover most mechanicals and wear a very handsome body.
It is supposed to cut into the market currently occupied by Granturismo,CL AMGs and Bentley CGT.
Still, might be a very interesting alternative for a daily driver although not such a breakthrough as the original 928 was.

Porsche would be MUCH smarter to go after the Maser GT and those other $130kish- $160kish cars, but I am betting they won't do that and they will go ABOVE the Turbo with whatever they call the next front engine 2 door Porsche... It will be just as stupid a move as the pricing for the Panamera is. I think they were targeting 20,000 of those a year... HA! They will be LUCKY, DAMN LUCKY to sell 10,000 a year. At $135k for an ugly car no matter how good it performs you would have to be a fool to buy that... sorry if any of you guys here are put your money on the line on this one and maybe the thing will look better in person, but OMG, what has happened? Did Chris Bangle move from BMW to Porsche on this one?! The Cayman is BEAUTIFUL, I really like the new 997 Carrera's, but the Cayenne could have looked TONS better and so too the Panamera! Just sad. Hope if they bring back the 928 it looks more like the first pic in this thread and MUCH less like the other pics here. Those other pics just look like cut up 911's...not bad, but not what it COULD BE either!

To make matters worse, the $135k is just a base price and after you add some options to make it halfway decent ,you end up at $175-$185k!

That is true. Thankfully it is the base price for the top model, but still that makes the S $80k+ and the plain jane V6 that won't be out till next year at the earliest $60k! Who are they trying to kid here man? INSANE! Knock each of those prices by $20k+ and content the car up in its base form and BINGO we have a winner... where it is at now...we will just have to wait and see, but I can't imagine 20,000 of those on the roads over the LIFE of the model (ok that is an exaggeration) let alone EACH YEAR!

I wish we could go back in time when Porsche only had good cars in their line up. I want the 911, 944, and 928 back...I am so sick of all these ugly and fat Porsches. You just know Porsche is going to make a hash out of this new 928...probably will just be a two door version of the Panamera monstrosity.

I personally do not like the shape of the Cayman but I do like the 997 better. I used to love the 928 shape as a child but it looks quite dated - please Porsche do not use the rear styling of the 928 (the front of the grey/silver car looks quite cool).

Not surprisingly I completely disagree with this... I think the GTS's in particular STILL look modern. If you parked a GTS in a Porsche dealers lot there would be more than a few folks asking about the "NEW" car I assure you. I will agree that the "S" cars did not age as well. The original body "OB" cars I think still look good today. Put bigger brakes and modern wheels on them and I like that look. The S4's are maybe slightly behind the OB's and well behind the GTS's in the modern look category, but I can go back and forth on the S4's and OB's...I like them both, but I LOVE the GTS's.

Anyway, I hope Porsche does not screw up the design of whatever they end up calling the front engine two door car...but I don't have much faith in their design ideas these days...

    Tim,

They are sort of like the CGT head lights. They are round behind the "plastic" covers. The new Boxster is like that too. I also like that red car, but it is not very 928 looking. Still looks good. More Maserati GT looking to my eye and that is no bad thing as the Maser GT is one BEAUTIFUL car and has a VERY nice very useable interior and is plenty fast too. I think you can get used ones in the low $80k range now too... NICE! I would LOVE to have one...or that red car! :)

Porsche's always had the round lights, I just like them better when they're not behind some different-shaped housing. It still looks great, just doesn't look "Porsche". It actually looks a lot like a Ferrari 456 GT to me from the fenders back.

Agree GTS looks quite fresh compared with the other variants. Still doesn't beat the derriere of the 993 :D.

I put my 1981 928S into a concours event recently, and I had people coming up to me and saying that nearly new cars shouldn't count. When I told them it was nearly 30 years old they couldn't believe it!
