I looked at the bikes yesterday. They updated the bike with more power, and less weight. They also have done some updating to the whole package. I felt like I was sitting on a 600. I have known the parts manager at the large dealership for years. He told me they dyno'd the bike at just over 160 hp. That bike weighs in at 365 lbs dry !!!!!

    Cool !

This year's GSXR1000 compares favorably with last years 1000 race bikes, and in fact, the bikes used at Daytona this year were essetially stock (motors) for the Superbike race (in all the teams, except the Yosh bikes).

It is one ugly son-of-a-gun though. I just got my cbr600rr and even then, it is not exactly beautifull. Why can't the Japanese build beautiful bikes? With the possible exception of an R1.

The new 1000 is no joke. My 2004 super sport made 173hp (rear wheel). The 2005 1000 just came off the dyno at 166hp (rear wheel) with 36 miles on it and the only modification was an exhaust system. With the fuel ratio pushing 14:1, I think that once the powercommander comes out, it would've been easily been in the low mid 170's. I think that in super sport trim it should push 185-190! Can't wait to get it finished.

yes, the new GXSR 100 is supposed to be a MONSTER. There are a couple of guys who posted about this over on the R1 Forum. Tiny bike, huge power. For me, though, it's really senseless. No use for this power on the street, (my riding abilities). At this point, it really comes down to style, for me.
I think the bike's looks are growing on me. I'd bet the aftermarket is going to come out with lots of options for the gixxer's can! Once it's replaced, the bike "could" be pretty.
Jap bikes not pretty? R1 baby!!!

Maybe not beautiful, but definetly exotic looking...

The best-looking GSXR1000 was the first gen in red/black (2002?). They have gotten progressively uglier since, IMO. The 600 and 750 20th Anniversary colors are absolutely hideous.

The muffler on the 1000 is one of the weirdest (in a bad way) designs out of Japan in years.

And why can't they paint them in one color only? This question applies to almost all Japanese bike as well. We don't all need light blue, white, dark blue, and neon pink graphics.

Since the comparison was made to the 999, if you look at the all-black 2005 999, it is one bad-a$$ motorcycle. and that is the base model. A 999R is unbelievable. All sexy sweaty carbon-fiber and titanium.

you know...you are totally correct. i spent a good many years racing in wera and ccs with white number plates and would be the firt to say that it is way too much bike for me! i do not see the point in always going for more power. it is way past the point of irresponsible imo.

my last time racing at daytona on my 750 superbike, i was able to get into 1:59-2:00 min laps! before the track change...600 supersport would kill those times!! bike have long since been in need of special licensing for different degrees of skill. hard to imagine any 16 yr old can go get financed for a gixer 1k!!! maybe the dealers need to do a better job or should take a more active roll in policing!!
