Aston Martin announces that James Bond, the legendary British secret agent, will drive one of their models in the next 007 film, “CASINO ROYALE” to be produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for Eon Productions.

Daniel Craig, who will play James Bond in the film, which is due to be released in November 2006 by MGM/Sony, visited the Aston Martin headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire, on Friday to view the featured car. While there he met Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ulrich Bez, and members of the workforce and also took the opportunity to take a short test drive.

In the true tradition of Bond, full details of the car to be used in “CASINO ROYALE” are being kept top secret but the company did confirm that it would be a new model called the Aston Martin DBS.

Dr Ulrich Bez said: “It is great news that Bond will drive an Aston Martin again and we have built him something special to enable him to do his job in style.”

The association with the marque began in 1964 with the film “Goldfinger” when the DB5 was fitted with “optional extras” such as ejector seats and rockets. The last Bond film, “Die Another Day”, featured Aston Martin’s flagship model, the Vanquish.

    Why?
Most people can't tell the difference between AM Vantage,DB7,DB9 and the Vanquish.
    They all look the same....

Aston-Martin just owns the high-end GT market when it comes to looks. Didn't used to be that way, but the DB9, Vanquish and now (probably) this DBS are some of the most gorgeous cars of the last decade.

Would be nice to see a reprise of a Ferrari driven by the villainess, though - was it Goldeneye with the red 355? Xenia Onatopp?

(I watched the Peter Sellers version of Casino Royale last weekend, BTW. Interesting that they're choosing to do a real Bond flim with the same title as the old spoof...)

COMPLETELY. incidentally, the "S" designation, the front lip, and the DB9 look makes me think maybe a DB9S ...?

I'm really hoping it's a hopped up version of the AM V8, as that car is phenomenal, but needs a lot more power.....

IIRC, he drove a 750IL a few films back. Maybe we'll see the new Aston sedan (Rapide).

A two-dimensional drawing and an early photo does not a beautiful, high-performance car make. The 612 drawings looked gorgeous but it took several photos before I finally saw the car that I originally saw in the drawings. Now that I see it, I love it but before that I thought it was weird. I don't see the lines of the 599 yet from the circulating photos.

If I were AM I would redesign the body of a Vanquish for this publicity stunt and hope for more money from Ford to develop a real replacement.

Even with a legitimate replacement it won't be in the same overall league as the 599. AM doesn't have the engineering or the technology to compete blow for blow with the 599. The only cars that will compete with it will have to have more HP and TQ, coupled with AWD or some ridiculous body-control mechanism a la MB's system.

The 599 will have 100 more HP than the 612. AM will have to respond with something but I'm sure even their money is very tight. I wish them luck because one reason Ferrari pushed the 575 so far was because of the Vanquish. Competition is always good.

Good points. I was told the DBS is actually a DB9 upgrade/project, not the Vanquish replacement. Although I haven't seen it in person, I received a promotional CD of the Rapide: a DB9 stretched 12in.....frankly one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen. Every man could use a few more inches, but adding those to the DB9 just made the lines flowwwww.......

Aston also will put 600hp in the Vanquish replacement. The present engine block is rock solid and curently capable of 600 with some tweaking. The Vanq/replacement will not and are not intended to outperform Ferraris on the track. Everyone get's their panties all wadded up between 575s and Vanq. Yes the Vanq was intended AT the 575 market, not AT the 575 as a track car. Astons are gentlemen GTs, not track cars......that is THE big difference. The 575/599 performance are targets to strive for, but in a car without compromising creature comfort/luxury. I just hope they'll offer cruise control in it.
