def. wayyyyyyyy to young. He looks younger then me! :p
LOL...! That movie was actually pretty good... Yes, i agree, he's too young to fit the Bond image... Bond needs to be of the Sean Connery variety - who, by the way, i think was perfect, right along with Pierce Brosnan... i think the youngest considerable Bond candidate should be George Clooney...
Naw, they'd never use an American (and shouldn't!). Although Clooney's got the 'suave and charming' thing going, he's no Bond. Besides, he's already done a not very memorable Batman (sorry, George), and is reportedly trying to take over the Magnum PI franchise.
Im the only person in the world that likes Roger Moore But of course, only I can be the next true Bond...
Best to worst Bonds: Connery, Dalton, Brosnan, Lazenby, Moore. Ewan McGregor is too small. Bond was 6 feet tall in the 1950s, e.g: a tall, imposing man for that day. Today, he'd have to be 6'4" to equal the look. My objection to Brosnan was that he was too small and fey looking to carry off what those of us who remember the books and Connery visualize. Connery captured the description in the books the best, although Fleming described Bond as looking like a young Hoagy Carmichael (strong jaw, long nose, high forehead, narrow mouth and Lazenby probably looked the most like the character Fleming envisioned). Hugh Jackman would be a very good Bond. I have not seen Clive Owen and cannot pass judgement on his fitness. Ioan Gruffyd (or however you spell it) is a terrific actor and a great personality. Take the Admiral from his 'Hornblower' series and make him "M" and you'd have a new franchise, the two of them interact as well as any two actors portraying a boss/subordinate role on the screen today. Did anyone catch Leonardo Di Caprio's character in "Catch me if you can"? His Connery as Bond impersonation (complete with DB5 and 3 piece suit from 'Goldfinger') had me roaring. "Purrssey"
As for the older Bonds this is how i feel (in order of apperance) Connery: the best, he had eveything bond needed, suave, body, look, and wit Laznby: awfull Moore: decent, i just think he tried a little to hard to be witty, but overall i thought he was good. Dalton: not as bad as Laznby, but pretty bad. He was kinda like Willam Shatner in that cop show he was in, i forget the name. Brosnan: 2nd best, i think that he encompases everything that Connery had, but nothing can beat Sean.
what about the guy from "The Patriot" with Mel Gibson. He was the British colnel I believe that plagued Gibson throughout the movie. He was pretty good I think? Clive Owen would be pretty good also. For a laugh, you could use "bullettooth Tony" from Snatch. Chris
Yes, we most definitely need a new M. Judie Dench is a great actress, but she makes my skin crawl as M. She's too much of a frigid old lady with a chip on her shoulder. I can't speak for all the books (I'm in the middle of Goldfinger right now; I've been reading them all in order), but Bond and M seem to have a friendly relationship in the books. I mean, sure, Bond was angry when M made him take the Walther and Smith and Wesson, but that was the only time they really had a go at it. Bond working for a woman on a power trip just doesn't seem right. I like Clive Owen. He *looks* like a Bond. I'd like to see Casino Royale turned into a real Bond movie. I know about the barely watchable so-called comedy version, but I'd like to see Le Chiffre on screen a francise film.
I'll bet it's great reading the books in order for the first time. They were so well written and the "sweep" of the books is great. I have always been a great fan of the books and to a lesser extent, the movies. The guy who took Bond's Beretta away and made him take the Walther was referred to as "Major Boothroyd", "Armourer", and "Q" which character became a main one in the movies. In reality, a man named Geoffrey Boothroyd, an English gun writer had written Fleming criticizing his gun choices and corrected some factually inaccurate points Fleming made about guns. Fleming was so taken by this that he made Boothroyd a character in the books and by extension, the movies.
I was just reading about that (the gun inaccuracies) the other day in the James Bond Bedside Companion. I highly recommend it if you don't already have it.
Guys the next bond actor will almost definatly be Eric Bana. It's all over the news here in Aus. Not sure he will fit the role but.......
I dont think he will do a bad job, it will just take a while to get used to him over the image of Brosnan.
