Neat side-by-side thus far, enjoy: http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/s720x720/600581_600695679944790_1020806393_n.jpg?dl=1
Ferrari wins this award for the most functionality. They used the vanity panel as a means of extending nose height on the top, and they reduced nose volume underneath by incorporating a driver cooling letter box arthe crash structure which also cleans up the boundary layer for flow under the nose. The most clever award without a doubt is handed to the Boys and girls in red.
That letterbox opening is also integrated to the internal ducting, with a simple nose change it's disabled as seen at Jerez. AND I highly doubt it's just for driver cooling.
I could see the ducting also being for kers cooling but not much else really. Other than cleaning up the boundary under the nose I don't see much more use for it.
Well, we definitely know it wasn't for cooling the gearbox =D since the hole was on the F138 when it was De La Rosa's day out on the track and not when Massa was driving the car.
These are all off of the launch versions of the cars. I wouldn't expect any of the cars to look just like they will once Q1 starts on March 16th. You can't look into the design of launch spec cars very much. They like to hide their best bits that they know will give them a performance boost when they bolt them on finally. They want to hide their best work for as long as possible so that all of their rival teams have the least amount of time to copy the design and get it working with their car.
