Okay. But what about the right side fender and door? Did that side seem okay? Did you look underneath? Did you check for plastic body filler?
I did not check underneath nor for filler as I was not interested in the car. I could see enough to know that it was not a Ghibli for me. Ivan
Missing some parts and rubber seals. Vinyl dash top. Paint and interior were nice enough for a good driver. No idea about the condition of the mechanicals bits. Thanks for the additional photos, Ivan. Pretty good price for a "good driver". I guess that's good for all Maseratisti.
1972 Maserati Indy 4.9L for sale | Hemmings Motor News This a very appealing combo to me except it's an automatic and not the Torqueflight either. Hood has paint issues too.
Bob, you say that one is not equipped with a Torqueflight? What is it then? The Indy asking prices seem to be up substantially. There are currently at least three USA cars asking near U$D 70,000. That's good news for Indy owners, (if the cars actually go for those prices).
I don't know for certain so maybe someone who does can clear this up. I think it's a Borg Warner? What's in your Khamsin Carmine? I think that's way too much money for that Indy but hey ... it's not like I've been watching then closely. There are so few really nice ones here. That one is pretty fetching looking. Like the Ghibli it has an ancient chassis compared with the cars that came after it.
Another "on a wing and prayer" project from Gullwing. At least they left the "Light Restoration" off of the advert LOL!
What a great looking car. Even beat up at the end of a long campaign it still manages to look purposeful and nasty (in a good way!).

That is not a Maserati and for the record, there never was a "Citroen-Maserati" brand. That is a Citroen SM. But usually sellers take advantage of the fact that it has a watered-down Maserati V6 engine and falsely advertise the car. Junk.
I saw a really nice one of these last November when I was visiting SF. Two older gentleman, it's SF , were staying the same hotel and it was parked next to me. It looked brand new. They were about to head back to LA shortly in it so there wasn't much time for chit chat. I thought it looked stunning in white with that brown pigskin? interior. It's a quirky looking sort of car. I've never had a chance to even ride in one as most over here have been left to rot like this one. This is a $1,500 car IMHO. This looks like an even more difficult restoration than an Espada too! LOL This was also Giulio Alfieri's personal choice as an automobile. Maybe Mark could post some photos of him with his car? Now we all know what a dunce of an engineer that man was Here's why these cars suffer so much over here. Three idiots discussing something they know almost nothing about. Even the owner dumps on his own car! WTF! Of course he does admit to not knowing one wrench from another. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNM9aHMdlzs]Alex Roy's 1973 Citroen SM on CarCast - YouTube[/ame] I think I want one. Americans ... These guys appear to be straight from that new hit TV series! Of course. It is a cousin, perhaps. I meant to call attention to the asking price relative to the condition of the car. USD 15,000 for a parts car! If that!
Yeah, I have no idea what guys looking for SM parts would be willing to pay. That guy in the video paid $20K for a very well sorted one so that's got to be the way to go I should think. I don't think we've ever had one show up at Le Belle Machinne which is too bad. I think we may have had a TC there once though Not much exotic or remarkable engineering with that car. One of these could be a lot more interesting if it was well sorted.
Why don't you find out? Some people have very strong opinions when it comes to Citroën SM, and they are very eager to tell the world about it, but when it comes to first hand experience it's silence. Most people in this corner of Fchat are for some reason fascinated by the brand Maserati, and some of them again even likes the cars Maserati made after 1967. A small look into the history books for the brand will make it obvious that without SM the brand Maserati would have been something else, probably a re-branded Fiat or something like that. Two of the loudest people here drive Merak's. No SM, no Merak, so think of that next time you turn the key to start your C114 engines for a fabulous drive. SM was the most advanced car ever made at the time, and it's possible to state that you don't like the car, but to neglect the fact that it was a very important car is just stupid. I'm not going to be one that just have strong opinion about Citroën SM without knowing, so thanks to you Bob (and a chat with Andrew Brodie at Retromobile), the SM with "spheres" are going to Oslo. The Euro parts are already bought, so the car will look right when it's back in Europe. Thanks for the tip: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/maserati/397604-sm-ebay.html You are welcome to have a first hand experience next summer if you come back to Norway Bob. Best regards Marius
Something on my bucket list Marius ... Norway that is so I'll keep that in mind. I have a fellow Berserker LOL named Jarle to visit as well. I'd love to see the fiords. I have no Idea if I have any relatives left there. My aunt who was 97 died last year and she knew all of the old family over there. MY branch came here in the 1880s. That's an awfully long time ago. So bought this, the car that is ... http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/maserati/397604-sm-ebay.html What I did like about that video is that the somewhat clueless owner still really liked the car and found it supremely comfortable even if he felt compelled to go along with ignorant and gratuitous comments from the no nuts gallery. One hundred forty mph eh? Color me a tad skeptical but I bet Jerry Hathaway could fix his steering issues at speed. Does one of those have the steering effort hardener as found on the Khamsin? Oh BTW, I'm pretty vocal on here too LOL Hey we're all having fun right?
Oh yeah! I'm loud myself, but try to understand what I'm talking about. And it's both fun and informative to hang around here. The SM do have the same mechanism as Khamsin for controlling the servo assistance at speed. The steering should not be very light at high speed, but it's very direct. Oslo is small, so we could easily gather 10 people with classic Maserati's and some with SM's if you like to come over for a BQ during our short summer.
I will keep that as open invitation! Perhaps we can barbecue LHM haters LOL So maybe this guy's belt is old, loose or missing from that mechanical hardener? With age the hardening function does decrease even for VIKINGS!
+1 Marius: Thanks for taking on educational efforts of this sort. It is somewhat disturbing that a car like the SM - certainly among the grandest automotive tour de force ever - gets such undeserved bashing. I have no problem whatsoever understanding that it may be an acquired taste: It is a very special and remarkable car! Not liking it - or understanding it - is perfectly fine, but I don't see the point of being so negative, Why not just simply accept that it takes special, remarkable minds to grasp and appreciate the SM ...
No, Walter and Maserati Blue is welcome as well, but are forced to have a pastis perroquet before dinner What do you mean? Vikings are born soft..... Please consider it an open invitation. Let me know in advance and the Norwegian Maserati Club will arrange an informal gathering. We did so with a fellow Merak enthusiast from Australia last summer.
Here here! A point I've been try to get "some" to understand for a while now. My quixotic task continues ...
