I wonder how it ended up with rot at the rear wheel well opening? Not typical . Terrible pictures and ad. Someone in the US please buy this car and keep one here. Looks like it's all there. Not the best color on that car IMHO.
$10K gets you this Merak project car. No real financial upside but could be a fun project if you have the time to do the engine, sort out the hydraulics, etc. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1975-Maserati-Merak-Base-Coupe-2-Door-3-0L-/251169001194?forcev4exp=true#v4-42 Ivan Image Unavailable, Please Login
I just don't see this combination that often. I usually see the Bora dash with the rubber bumpers. The red SM dash is kind of a cool change but red interior with a red car? No. Sop the Citroen LHM equipment is currently removed from the back of the engine? It has an SS engine but it's an LHM car? The LHM wouldn't scare me at all but it needs to be White or Silver IMHO.
I had a 1975 Merak once with the same combination ... ugly rubber bumper with early dash and Citroen hydraulics, and the later style SS engine. My guess is that all US 1975 model year Meraks were that way. Ivan
If not all then at least util then at least until the older parts supply was suitably reduced. If you've got a big pile SM dashes and other LHM style Merak parts you just keep building them that way. How was that one to drive?
It was not a bad car. Meraks are not really fast (compared to the Bora) but they rev very nice when properly tuned, which makes them fun. The SM dash has character in its own peculiar way. Ivan
I'm just barely holding myself from writing a long list of profane words But I'll just remind everyone the most important feature of citroen, the famous warning light: STOP BRAKE FAILURE even when not lit, it still gives you an idea of what the future has in store for you.
Its still a serious amount of exotic for not much money. And today you still get brake failure lights with any new car...Whats the issue exactly?
I've driven a couple of Merak SS cars before so I know what they're like. I was wondering how the LHM system was on this car. Did the entire experience of it feel any different than the Bora's?
Really - did I ever mention that I am interested in project cars? Did I ever mention I would chopp a genuine car to get a spyder?
Well it would be worth somewhat more money that way but it would also be a fake. There are people who can make the missing roof and graft it in. I would think that would be easier than turning into a 100% accurate (including the structural changes) spider. Over in the Lamborghini section Bob Huber accomplished fantastic repairs of a very damaged Espada. It's his car so I guess he's willing to absorb the expense more than a customer paying for it would. Maybe that's what's needed here, an owner who's also a professional body craftsman. The roof is not the only challenge!
Only 1 Maserati here, and it's not even a real one, but a replica 450S. Quite a few nice Ferraris though, along with some Alfas, Jags and Aston Martins. http://www.artcurial.com/en/asp/searchresults.asp?pg=4&ps=18&st=D&sale_no=2264+++#a_10414350
So after Coys in August this year Artcurial now take over the job to sell this 450s "Replica"....! Each correcte Replica should be offended!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Maserati-Other-COUPE-1964-MASERATI-MISTRAL-COUPE-VERY-EARLY-FRUA-ALL-ALUMINUM-BODY-CAR-/181004063295?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2a24aed23f#ht_37575wt_1550 The interior looks decent, the car's been reprayed in BUY ME red, but the pics of the chassis ID, motor room and under the car all worry me. Looks like things haven't been taken care of at all anywhere you can't immediately see. Still, what a wonderful car the Mistral is.
I never understood the Mistral. It has a silly shape that resembles a Mazda, looks nothing like a supercar, has no relation to any past Maseratis. I was VERY surprised when I learned that the Mistral was supposed to be the successor of the 3500GT... OH MY GOD.... what were they smoking??????? how more wrong could they get it???? from the 3500GT they came up with the Mistral??? WTF...
No, I don`t agree with you here! The 4.0-Liter Mistral is a VERY fast car! Using a monocoque it was the first modern Maserati as the earlier types used the ladder-frame anymore. Also handling etc. is significantly better than with the 3500GT. OK, we can discuss the overall design of the car - but I like it now.
