Do yourself a favor and buy the ORIGINAL version:

    SPOILER BELOW

Basically, here it all is in a nutshell:

The office that the filming takes place in is downsized, the boss (the idiot) is fired but keeps coming back and just "hanging out" until he is told he can never come back. For the end of year party he has to hire a date, but can't find a good one.

The secretary moves away with her fiance (and gets married), has a kid, and comes back for the end of year party. On the way back to the hotel (her and her husband only visit. They live in some far off place), she realizes her husband isnt the one and goes back to the guy that keeps hitting on her. In the end, he asks her out 3 times.

Thats pretty much it. You would have thought that they would have changed the plot A LITTLE bit. Nope

Sorry, i had to rant. Another good show ruined. Btw, a good movie will be ruined soon too. Its based on the English book by Nick Hornby called Fever Pitch about a football (soccer) fan who is crazy about the local team. Its pretty much about his life and how obcessed with football (soccer) he is. SOMEHOW, someone in Hollywood has managed to adapt it to Baseball. wtf? See the original and you'll know what i mean. Why do people always have to adapt good original series' and movies and ruin them?

Yeah I laughed a couple of times but overall not very funny. There is a show are KERA (British) that a cameraman and reporter go to different jobs and see all the stupid things that go on. That was pretty funny show. Don't remember what it was called though.

It just shows how bad American TV is. The BBC Office was great. Good English Comedy. The NBC show took the EXACT script to the T and just had the censors remove anything racy, volgur, non PC, etc and have the actors read it. The reason the show works is for the aformentioned items. This show WILL be off the air soon.

I didn't want to say that its because the Americans can't do a good show for themselves, but its true. Granted, there are a few good shows but in general, everything has been taken over by reality tv and re-makes of old series. Compare British tv to American tv. No wonder everyone thinks Americans are crazy.

I was most disappointed with the guy the American show is using for the "Garreth-Like" character. But like others have said the british version was much better. They should have tried to put the BBC version on a few years ago w/o the censorsing.

Actually Pam (the secretary), never got married or became a mom. The baby she is holding in "The Office Special" wasn't hers. I just watched the special a few days ago. Grteat ending for the series though. It was nice to see Brent have a little good luck for a change.

I'm a big fan of the BBC version. I watched last night and it was OK, but nothing like the BBC version. I'll still watch it though.

IMO, Humor on both British and American TV have their strong and weak points.

I used to watch a lot of British shows in the late 80s and 90s - E.g. Piglet Files (about the Secret Service), Drop the Dead Donkey, Jeeves and Wooster, Mr. Bean etc, Fawlty Towers. The quality of humor was awesome.

But there were also clunkers (IMO) like Benny Hill Show, Are you being served, etc. These were stupid slapstick stuff without any redeeming values.

British humor typically has a lot of delicious irony and self-deprecating touch about it. It is also not dumbed down to make to kosher to everyone. There is also not much preaching done in it. There is fun poked at the class system and royalty which cannot be replicated in the US.

Regarding American humor, there are awesome shows as well during the same period - Cheers, Everybody loves Raymond, Frasier, Fresh Prince, etc.

But for every one of these there were several message loaded and family oriented comedy shows like Small Wonder, Full House, etc. There was always some moral to the story and the humor became very repetitive very quickly.

I am also one of the few persons who cant stand "Friends" - that is the most formulaec serials ever. I liked the first few shows but got bored immediately.

As a person who grew up neither in the US or UK, I was in the perfect position to judge comedy shows from both sides.

A question to the Brits on the f-chat board, how good are today's British comedy shows.

Two shows to catch are MI-5 and Red Cap. Both are very well done crime / spy type shows. Great scripts / plots / acting.
