    Yep, saw these also!! Definately not a 612 and probably replacement for 575! the whole car looks shorter, look at the doors! Or am i imaginating this? Hope they change the look of the final car more because now they look almost the same: 612 and replacer!
    But i guess we won't see that car for real before the 360 is replaced!? Any insider info anyone??

    they won't release a maranello replacement that looks THAT much like a 612.

    looks to me like a late-stage 612 mule.

    Doody - look how much shorter the doors are. I'd say its a 575 replacement. Won't look anything like this I'd guess, but its a shorter wheelbase than the 612.

    fair enough - the doors definitely are shorter. they just chunked out the door width delta from the overall wheelbase.

    we know that the Maranello replacement is being built on the Scaglietti platform - my dealer told me this. so the only substantial differences at the end of the day would be engine and skin.

    so i guess it is possible that this is a very early Maranello-replacement mule.

    but there's no way they could release a 2-seater 612 and call it the maranello replacement, imo. it'd trash the market. like bobafett, i'd be looking elsewhere. it won't happen.

    What better way to disguise a prototype and confuse spies than to use existing body panels? I'm with Doody. This car is too similar to the 612 to be the real deal. Perhaps the 575 replacement will have 612 styling cues (hope not), but it won't be a clone.

    To be honest,the proportions of this "disguised" 575 are much better then the 612.

    Ill stick w/ you two, I dont mind the 612, but having near twins wouldnt do it for me, I love the 550/575 lines and want to see something more beautiful,not something similar to other models.

    I was thinking the same thing. Still looks like BMW's Bangle has been moonlighting over at Ferrari. Ugly seems to be "in" at the moment, maybe I'll have better luck picking up chicks if this "ugly" thing turns into a fad.

    I'm not sure how the engine can be adopted from the Enzo AND 612 Scaglietti, as that article states. I was under the impression that the 612's engine was derived from the 575. Anyway...

    Yeah, I think these shots are of the replacement mechanicals probably being tested. Don't worry everyone, it won't look anything like this! Everyone got scared when they saw the flat rear of the 420/430 Monza when testing. They disguise these cars heavily! This test mule doesn't have a single body panel from what will be the actual car. Keep this in mind when looking at spy pics. As time goes on, we might get a better sense, but don't be surprised if you keep seeing a 612 rear or 612 headlights. That won't be on the final car.

    Since the 575 replacement will be based on the 612's platform, it could very well be a test mule with 612 bodywork on it. I can't wait to see what it's going to look like!

    In the article they say that there is going to be a Barchetta version. Hopefully its a lot better design then the 550Barchetta, that car is a top-down only car. And I thought Ferrari was going to release a 575Barchetta before the end of the 575s run? I guess not.

    I think the "Barchetta" designation actually means that it's only an open top car. (Was the 166 Barchetta the first?) To be a full convertible, they would call it a spyder, or something else. If they called it a barchetta, it would probably be just that.

    According to the Car Connection Article, the Front and Rear maybe closer to the 612 than was the 456 vs. 550 car. I hope not, I hope they do a much more elegant design on the 600 Imola than they did on the 612. Or else I would prefer the 550/575 Cars.

    Here are the very first pictures of Ferrari's forthcoming replacement for the celebrated 575M Maranello. Dubbed the Ferrari 600 Imola and expected to debut in 2006, the new car will carry over the technical concept of a V-12 front-engine super sports coupe seating for two, but is expected to become a considerably larger car (gaining especially in length) with roomier cabin and luggage compartments. Power will be delivered by a new 6.0-liter engine adopted from the Enzo and 612 Scaglietti models.

    As a first prototype, the new car is cunningly hidden under a cut-and-shut 612 Scaglietti body that has been shortened between the A and B-pillars by 6 inches. It takes a good look to spot the giveaway clues - the shorter doors, the bulged door panels, the arch of the side windows, and the widened front end.

    Technically, the 600 will draw heavily on the 612's body-panel-on-aluminium-space-frame technology and mechanical underpinnings, including engine, transaxle transmissions, and front and rear suspension corner modules. Consequently, the 600 will not be considerably lighter than the 4056-lb 612 Scaglietti. But specially tweaked suspension geometries, damper and spring settings as well as shorter gear ratios will provide for a much sportier driving experience.

    The 6.0-liter engine, rated at 540 hp in the 612 Scaglietti and 660 hp in the Enzo, is expected to be tuned for around 580 to 600 hp in the Imola. The 600 will also adopt the 612's front-mid-engine layout. The shorter wheelbase of the 600 and an even more forward position of the front axle will further improve handling abilities over those of the 612. When compared with the current 575M, the 600 may gain in driving stability as well as steering response and turn-in, thanks to its longer wheelbase and the more balanced weight distribution.

    Unclear remains at the moment to what degree the new 600 Imola will optically resemble the 612 Scaglietti. It is anticipated that the external distinction will be similarly pronounced as it was between the 456M GT/GTA and the 550/575M models. But the close technical relationship and parts sharing philosophy between the new 612 and future 600 models will forbid Pininfarina (who are once more in charge of styling a prestigious new Ferrari) to depart from joint proportions and similar front and rear end shapes.

    An open-top "Barchetta" spyder version is rumoured to debut in 2007 or 2008, i.e. one to two years into the F600 Imola's series production.

    I like the 612, except for the front end. Mainly the smile and the lights. If that was changed on the '600 Imola' I would be a happy feller.

    I see no big difference between the "600 Imola" and the 612 Scaglietti....is there any more pics you can show?

    How can you say thats NOT a 612? It looks exactly like one! Even the indentations on the door panels! If that is the 575 replacement.....that sucks.
