I wish I could say I did! Sorry I didn't make that clear in the post. I just found them when looking for some info on the 599xx. I thought they were so good I just had to share.

Sounds like a good place. Wish I could join you, I'm not at the office today, but still bogged down with homework. If I lived in Marin, I'd be there for lunch.

I wore my swim trunks to work, but alas, the pool never opened.

I'm getting a lot of funny looks today.

All I wanted was a swim!

    Hmmm.

    What do you know?

The end, no, the Eastward displacement of the West Coast, so eagerly anticipated by the national news media has failed to happen.

Oh well. I am sure there are some very disappointed talking heads in NYC.

On with your lives, the end of the world is not nigh after all.

Guess I better put down the margarita and get back to fixing cars.

This quake was really something, never felt one this strong and long before. I was at 14F in my Tokyo condo, and the entire building was shifting left and right with all kind of noises. Largest noise coming from falling objects, not from my own but neighbors, upstairs, next door, or downstairs. It felt like the building could collapse any time. After the main quake I checked around, there were no cracks or anything that noticeably was wrong. Have to give a lot of credit to the architects who built these high rise condos. The traffic pretty much came to a stop for a few hours, none of the train systems were working, particularly the subways. Lot of people on the streets as all offices closed right after the quake and only way for many people to get home is by walking. It is fortunate that the quake origin was not Tokyo, or would have been much worse. Feel sorry for some of our missing colleagues in Sendai sales office and some of those that have families there. Power and communication is still down.

Sorry to hear about your country. Hopefully the 7th Navy can be of some help, it sounds like some areas really need it. Glad you were in a modern building. The USA & Japan do a good job making them survive an earthquake. I hope your missing colleagues and their families are just without communication.

    Be safe.

Glad you are safe and wish your families and friends well. Thank the structural engineer, not the architect. Japan has world class seismic engineers, much better than the US. Our US standard seismic connections used to resist lateral loads induced by ground acceleration bascially all failed in loma prieta so we went back to the drawing board. It will interesting to see how modern science fared after this earthquake.

Thanks for the kind words all. Let's keep praying for those MIA to be found.

Another quake that i experienced personally was the one in Taiwan back in 1999, magnitude of 7.3. The quake center however was inland and roughly 10km from surface. For those of you know, several buildings collapsed in Taipei city, 2400+ death and over 10k people injured. There was an entire town at the center of the quake that just disappeared. This one in Tokyo felt stronger for sure, and glad to learn that not too many got hurt at the capital.
