Hey, It does look pretty cool - See this link; http://www.formula1.com/mobile_services/live_timing.html What's pissing me off is it's $28.99! - It's not so much the amount, just the principle of further lining the pygmys pockets..... Anyone got it? Is it as good as it appears? [Seems the live timing on the F1 site isn't working properly very often - Coincidence? ] May have to dig deep before qualy this evening. Cheers, Ian
I saw it last week when I wanted to install the Live Timing app on my Android phone. What a joke!! And even worse is the "free" version, a demo without any content...
I got it when I got the new ipad last week. FP1 and FP2 were my first opportunities to use it and I have to say, I loved it. Having a track map with the cars positions on it is great. I really had a hard time paying $30 to F1, but I think it will prove worth it throughout the season. Mark
This isn't so useful when watching on tv since they pretty much keep you up to date with what is going on (and you can get most of this right on the net), but if you're actually at the race this would be perfect as it's tough to follow the times while you're sitting in the stands.
At least you had a demo option! No such thing under iOS it seems. Thus far (at the Apple store) it seems folk either love it or hate it (but the sample size is small). Oh well, I bit the bullet and gave him my money..... First thing it did was ask if I wanted to download FP2 - It's playing that back right now and looks pretty good so far - Can pause, rewind etc. The F1 commentary feed is there too. As for this stuff being available free on the web I've been struggling to get the web based live timing going, otherwise I'd have probably stuck with that. I'll report back after qualy tonight - So far, so good are initial impressions. Cheers, Ian
I'm going to use this while I'm watching TV. Now anytime Speed goes to a commercial, I can still see everyone's track position and such. I haven't seen the track positioning on the web before, so if it's there, I'm sad I spent $30. However, now that I'll have the Ipad running live timing, the computer will be free for Fchatting and I won't have to switch back and forth. Mark
was watching 2nd practice in a meeting today... pretty cool! Kimi 5 place because of gear box change....
If I had the iPad I would buy it. In fact I considered buying an iPad just to buy it. When you divide the cost by the number of races and track sessions it is really a very small price to pay. There is a Demo version in the Apple Store. Search for 'Formula 1 or the App's developer, 'Soft Pauer'. Mostly unfavorable reviews about the Demo version because it doesn't make it clear that it has no access to real content. All it really does it show you what to expect and prompt you to buy the full version. >8^) ER
I had it last year (think it was $39 last year)....will not purchase it again. The novelty wears off quickly. I tend to DVR the races so that I can sleep late/skip commercials and find it nearly impossible to 'sync' the iPad and the DVR up.
Have it, and I love it. Used it at Albert park to check out the positions of all cars, as I had a general admission ticket with little access to a big screen. Worked brilliantly. Even while watching TV, I always had live timing open on a laptop beside me, now my iphone will replace it. Agreed that the cost is a bit high, but then the app developers need to get paid too, not to mentione Bernie.....
I've had it last two years. I don't think that much of it. It's ok and I'd probably appreciate it for no cost, but for a huge amount? nah..don't think so.
I have it on both my android tablet and my iphone, its nice but certainly not worth what they want for it.
Ian bought it, so I had to buy it! Finally broke down and bought an iPad, some key data acq will be iOS5 compatible this year...
simliar here...I have it on ipad (useless bit of junk, but that's another story) and my android phone. I was trying to be more polite about it, but yeah.
Thankyou so much for that incredibly useful, helpful and in depth response. I assume you bought it ahead of Australia, tried it, and found it wanting? Why is it "useless"? Which platform? It's showing FP3 right now (not much happening as we know) and is ~15 seconds ahead of the Speed stream. Sector & lap times are popping up nicely (purple/green etc as appropriate) Thus far, I'd have to completely disagree that it's useless. Cheers, Ian
Yep, as Peleton noted, factor in the # of times I'll use it, and $30 doesn't seem that bad. Dunno about other platforms, but on the iPad (map, positions, commentary) and the iphone (timing) coupled with tv/stream it worked great IMO. Very nice enhancement to my f1 viewing experience. Cheers, Ian
Hi Ian, it hangs I found it not so stable, and honestly I prefer to rely on our Fchat members!plus, the price is a killer. The maxis free app is better I think.
