haha, nice one
Don't worry, Chris, Ferrari is the featured marque every 10 years or so out at Monterey. So you can look forward to 2014, when your dad won't have any say in the matter!
THAT'S a thought!!! Here's to 2014! *raising a toast to my Fchat buddies in the West* All of Mario's wine in Sonoma will be that much older then, LOL!
Conversation between me and parents: me: would you guys be interested in a few days looking at sweet cars and watching some ferraris race? parents: hmmm...I dont think so.... I wouldnt even get to the Monterey part, and well, if I did thats a sure "no"! ehh...maybe in a couple of years, I hear there holding one in teh next couple of years in VA...maybe? David
Simply piss-poor planning on my part. I could have gone but I got roped into a Mexican vacation with the girlfriend. That trip is going to eat up my remaining vacation time for the year.
Friends, You guys are all making a mistake. I was there 20 years ago as a neophyte, unbelievable, driving back at night I remember a racing 12 next to us for miles, stopped at a rest stop it pulled in was a 330 LMB, we camped there and at night the sound of the V-12's etc driving aound just on the surface roads send chill down your spine. 10 years ago I went up and saw the gt4 I eventually would buy at CI at the historics, met and talked to Frolian Gonzales, Phil Hill, Briam Redman, Jackie Ickx, listening to the F race cars at full song at Laguna Seca is something to be heard, 1960 f1 cars, 512's 260 LM's, GTO's all racing!!!!! Nicki Lauda slipped by me so close in the crowd that he rubbed his melted ear on the side of my face. This year there is a race with 6 or 7 GTO's, on Sunday they are bringing the 2003 F1 car over to have a special driver take some laps. It will be the largest F gathering in recent memory, yes there is lots to do and you can only do a few but............. I will be at the Concorso Italiano with my red/black dino gt4, It should be easy to find me I will have a Ferrari qulit to sit on and a large Ferrari umbrella, if they let me put it up, and will be wearing a bright yellow AGIP Ferrari pit team shirt. Please come by and say hello, I am bad with names but would really like to meet some of you if we haven't already met. Robert Garven
YOu guys are missing out, I was there in 94 with my Mazda pickup and my Bulldog, never saw so many cool Ferraris in one place buzzing all over.
To Erik, For goodness sake, you live in Shanghai (pop. 40 millions and counting...) and you hate crowds?. You should move to Montana instead.
Only 20 million. I live in Pudong (4 million) and in a gated communitiy (maybe 2000). I still hate crowds. The main reason is I'm burning my vacation time for a friends wedding and will be meeting my wife for our anniversary in October in the states. Friends and family always bump car stuff.
TO ERIK, Totally agreeable. I will post pics to see, hoping my camera doesn't blow up by over-usage. Pics will be posted under No. Cal section sometime next week. Henry
1. It sounds like too much work. 10 gazillion people in an area designed to hold only half a gazillion. Don't want to mess with traffic, don't want to mess with crowds and couldn't find a helicopter to simply drop me in the middle of it all.
Reasons for NOT going to Monterey: 1. Ankle monitor bracelet has insufficient signal strength after about 1 block. Alarm will trigger. (Must design amplifier to allow increased "roaming" distance.) 2. Nearest relative lives in Phoenix. (minimum "sponge" factor for free room.) 3. It looks tacky to hitch hike with sign saying. "Ferrari rides ONLY!" 4. Too much "liberalism" in the air out there. 5. Too many kit cars built out of "scraps of frame", "pieces of suspension", and repro wheels and parts.
Whatever. Seen one? Ya seen 'em all. (Come on... really, I'll bet Napolis has a jet and he's just being stingy with it. I'm well groomed, bathe frequently, neat-freak, don't eat too much, and I don't even need a seat up front. What Gulfstream owner wouldn't want me along?!?!)
1. Only joined Ferrarichat in February. 2. Only purchased Ferrari in May. 3. Didn't receive Ferrari until June. 4. Spent all money on Ferrari purchase and delivery (and Tubi). 5. Actually have paying customers during Monterey weekend. 6. Desperately need paying customers - see Item 4. Have consoled self with knowledge that Jordan will take pictures of everything. Hoping too that someone will make videos at the Historics... Also have optimism that I will (1) still have Ferrari(s) and (2) will still be alive in 2014 to go to the next Ferrari-as-featured-marque 'do' up the coast, preferrably without the need for paying customers... Cheers Kevin
