Well, there's not a Ferrari in sight, but if you're talking chase scenes, you can't omit the French Connection from any discussion -

As any one seen the car chase in the Noddy series where the two naughty pixies steal Bigears hat. Noddy gives chase like his life depends on it. If you look really close you can see the car on two wheels as he corners the main square. The cars set up is excellant, it as been suggested that Penske (race shock manufacturers) assisted

I just bought a DVD of the short (9 minutes) video clip "Rendezvous". It's by far the best Ferrari drive ever taken through the streets of Paris. Supposedly it was a 275 GTB!

    Anyone else see this??

I have a copy of it. It was long thought to be a 275 but if you listen it is not a V12. I think it was found to be a Matra or something like that.

    Great film.

Seen it loads of time - wonderful sound from the exhaust and the carbs, really gets you on the edge of your seat, can't really make up my mind what Ferrari it is, but I can't stop watching it - shame about the pigeons !!!!

Who produced the CD ? - I have a tape version and the CD would be more desirable.

everyone here being big ferrari enthusiasts, im sure many of you have seen this work of art. if not, you need to see it. for those of oyu who dont know, the french film maker claude lelouche mounted a camera on the front of his 275 GTB and did a very high-speed run through paris, illegally. he does not stop for red lights, oncoming traffic, or pedestrians, but simply doges them. the sound is magnificent and its a must see.

Wow! 60's era tires plus cobblestone streets = very dicy driving! I need to watch that again and figure out how many red lights he goes through! If it was me I would get busted on the first one!

Sure, sunrise and 30 (?) years ago. I guess I'm still smarting from the last time I was there and it took an hour to go three miles to the train station. And that was with a cab driver who probably could have given Schuey a run for his money! Terrific film, thanks for posting it. I've gone back and forth about buying the DVD, now I surely will.

I have the DVD - its awesome. There are lots of legends about the film. Rumours that its a 275 were propogated at the time.

A lot of people actually believe that it was done in a white Mercedes sedan! Apparently the trick is to freeze frame as the car goes past windows to see if you can see the reflection.

    Incredible!

I never get tired of watching that film. Thanks for posting SPH.

Dan - I havent heard the white Mercedes rumor, its an interesting thought. Good idea to freeze frame the movie as the car passes a building. The engine does sound very much like a Ferrari, but perhaps with an more open exhaust a Merc would sound like a racing car as well....

it is said that the car in question is not a ferrari at all! some sources say that it is RENAULT alpine berlinetta, they say that the gear ratios are to short for the ferrari and that the sound isn't of the ferrari aswell. you can read about this on page 13 of the dutch car magazine AUTOVISIE 18 december 2003. (maybe they got this information just to shut them up, zo they would stop calling lelouch etc.)

Agree with your comment on the speed being hightened with the low view. Many people claim the film's sped up, but if you watch the birds and pace of the flashing lights, it's clear that it's not overcranked.

As for how fast he really goes, I did the route in 1993 (at 4am behind the wheel of Audi 80 rented from Hertz!) and he's not going that fast, I didn't have the courage to blow off the red lights like he did, but you can really go quicker in places if you know what you're doing and where you're going. I clocked the route and the milage in case anyone wants to try it!

The run from Porte Maillot Metro to the Arc just before the turn in takes him 40 seconds and it's only half a mile (45mph).

From the exit at Place De Gaulle down the Champs Elysees to the entry at Place de la Concorde takes 66 seconds over 1.1miles (60 mph).

From the Concorde Exit down the Quai Des Tuileries to the Pont Du Carrousel the driver goes his quickest covering .7miles in 38 seconds (67mph). This is not surprising as there's no risk of cross traffic until the bridge (Seine on the right and the De Jardin Tuileries on the left).

The rest of it isn't much more impressive (other than the garbage trucks and the irrepressable white Mini!). Actually his best driving is on the right/left Rue Caulaincourt/Ave Junot section, but even there he's only going 35 mph on average.

If any of you are interested in driving the route, here 'tis......

Off the motorway at Porte Maillot bear right
Join Avenue De La Grande Armee (Don't forget to turn before hitting the Arc!) and turn right in the traffic circle
    Rejoin Avenue Des Champs Elysees
Right at the Place De La Concord
    Left Quai Des Tuileries
Left Port Du Carrousel (this was blocked off last time i was there, something to do with security) and past the Louvre Pyramide
Out and on Rue de Rohan
Quick left up the Avenue De L'Opera
Jink right around L'Opera on Rue Halevy through to Rue De La Chaussee
Jink right around Ste. Trinite on Rue Blanche
    Quick right on Rue Pigalle.
Left at Place Pigalle down De Clichy Blvd
    Right Rue Caulaincourt
Hard right on Ave Junot becomes Rue Norvins
    Left past Cimetire St. Pierre
Right on Card Guibert (careful here, he's gone the wrong way down a one way street, likely for dramatic effect!)
Right into the Place du Parvis du Sacre Coeur.

I was hoping a hot blonde would be there to meet me on the steps (but then again Claude Lelouch's wife's a little long in the tooth now), but there was just some bum sleeping next to the crepe stand to salute the end of my drive.

    Enjoy the ride.

    T308 -

Yes, if you have the individual times/distances, I would be interested in them... :D

I am trying to put together a "map" for a PC game with Rendezvous as the subject.

Also, if anyone is interested in the sudden swerve near the end of the movie, a friend "gamma-ed" one of 10 frames from the swerve showing what appears to be *why* he swerved (and detoured from a more direct route) - the back end of a car parked on the right side of the street...
