Looks good  I am probably going to have to scrap mine :( I missed the fuel filler flaps on the sprue with the two biggest parts and think i have thrown them away :eek:

That kinda sucks, but scrapping it seems a little extreme! - How about just filling one side with putty (you could probably even save the panel line?) and leaving the other "open" - Paint the filler top and I doubt anyone will even notice it's missing the flap?

She'll be fine! - Looks much to good for the parts box.

Good luck, I should have some progress pix soon btw - I got diverted making a "paint holder".

    Cheers,
    Ian

Dont know if my filling skills would cope very well with that :( Thanks for the suggestion. Im going to ask on F1m if anyone can help and possibly look into buying a spare :( I also have a friend with the clear view version and i am hoping maybe there is a spare set in there.

I finished the wheels yesterday too, they looked quite good :D

Agreed - F1m is awesome - Maybe someone's got 'em laying around. I actually thought of offering you the one's from my second kit, but reckon they'll be needed - Sorry!

Sounds like you'll be following my "lead" and doing two of 'em! ;) - Just think of it as "expanding the scope" of the project..... [I have ideas for a garage diorama with random bits & pieces laying in front of the garage.....]

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS - Alternatively, Tamiyausa say that if you call 'em with the kit and sprue # they'll send you a replacement - I don't know what they charge, and I'm still waiting to hear back from 'em on something else ("out of stock"), but maybe worth a try?

Thanks for the info Ian, id probably try them in the USA. Im not sure if the Tamiya UK distributer are any good, they dont even seem to have a website. I understand you will probably need yours, i ideally need to find someone who has some sitting around and has finished the kit and definately wont need them.

Fingers crossed that F1M or someone on another forum can come up with the goods as i dont really fancy building two as i am going to go all out with this set i bought a month or so ago http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1605 along with the Tamiya kit, should be fun  Itll be a wheels/nose/cover off job similar to what you are trying to achieve.

On a brighter note here is a pic of the wheels, just need some decals and they are good to go. I had a problem with my airbrush and it would not spray the Alclad at the correct psi, as you can see it does not give as good an effect when you use a higher pressure.

Damnit! - Sorry dude, I didn't check where you were located [In classic "American" tradition! - And I'm an ex-pat Brit - Sorry again!]

Having said that, I called Tamiya USA over a month back looking for a sprue for my Tyrell (don't ask!) - They said it wasn't in stock, expected in "about 2 weeks" and would email me when it arrived..... Nothing :-(

I called again last week and left a message - No return call as yet :(

I'm about to try again, and will ask the price of that sprue while I'm (hopefully!) talking to 'em - If I get anywhere I'll report back.

Good luck with the HFM build - I'm not sure I'm not up to that as yet!

BTW - You've got red-tinge back in your pic - The dots on your building board look *really* red, and that kind of messes with the look of the wheels (At least on my monitor)..... What camera are you using? Does it have adjustable white balance?

    Cheers,
    Ian

Its a Sony Cybershot of some kind, im not very good with cameras but ill have a look. I bought it because it has a 12x optical zoom which is great for work. It could be that i am taking pics under a desk lamp?? I have to avoid the flash as it ruins the pictures.

Very probably - If you're lucky, it'll have a white balance setting for "incandescent" - Suggest you give that a go.... [And/or try all the available settings!]

 I guess because the flash is overpowering the subject [They come out overexposed?]. It's a PITA, but you could try putting something translucent (tracing paper, white silk etc) in front of the flash to cut it's effective power output if there's no way to turn it down.

Incidentally, I spoke with Tamiya USA again - They now have one of the sprues I need in stock (@5.20 btw) but not the other :(. Neither do they have your "A" parts - He claims he can order it, but hopefully someone at F1m will come thru for you.

    Cheers,
    Ian

Thanks Ian, ill have a play around with it next time i take some pictures. Ive had a look in the manual and it seems to have the settings you mention.

Also thanks for asking about the parts for me, although it did hit me today that maybe i am being a tightwad and should just buy another kit :D The last few kits i have bought were more expensive but i noticed yesterday that these are now only £10-£15.

One idea is to buy another kit, take the parts you need for your first kit, and then build separate components from the second kit to put on display elsewhere.

For example a separate engine or maybe take the major body panel, paint it, detail it and then frame it like a pinned butterfly. That piece alone would make a nice little detail to give to someone or hang on the wall in a small frame.

I had the pieces of the engine from a second kit I had to buy because I messed up somewhere along the way on the first kit. I put the engine together in a few days and gave it to a friend as a birthday gift.

Having a second set will give you freedom to do other things too.

Thanks for the tip, i have resigned myself to buying another kit so will probably end up doing something like that or perhaps similar to what Ian is doing :)

Here's a pic of my bad decal. Not sure what happened. You can't really see it, but the clear part of the decal is there where it peeled up into the color portion. This happened after using the Micro Sol. I didn't dare touch it after it curled over in fear of it tearing completely. I may try some Micro Set on it later to see if it will peel back.

Bummer on the decal. I have a F2007 kit that I started a thread on here a while back that needs finishing, maybe I'll pull it out over the holidays.

I now have a pair on the way from a very kind member on F1M

Lesson learned: Keep the spare bits of sprue until completion to avoid throwing bits away you will need and also keep the part number in case you mess them up :D

    That's great news!

I always keep the empty sprues in the model box just in case. It's paid off twice now. :D

Here are some progress pics. Word of advice, don't use the white decals on any of the wing sections. I wish I would have just painted them white. They look ok, but I think the paint would be much better, especially around the front edges.

I mistakenly put a BBS sticker upside down on 1 rim and tore it when I tried to reverse it. Luckily it's hardly noticeable since it's so small. :) I'm almost finished and I'm pretty satisfied with the build. Not the best ever, but good for my talents! :D

Looks great, you are almost there.

I tried those white decals on the last F1 car i built - never again. The ones you have to fold over the rear wing are fun too :(

Latsyrc: Sorry for poking My nose in, especially as I'm no model builder but I think you've got your tyres and wheel nuts mixed up!.

If you look at this picture: http://www.maxiview2000.com/ferrari/imgs/oc035.jpg, the blue nuts go on the wheels with the tyres mounted on the right hand side of the car (as the driver looks forward) and the direction arrows on the tyre point in a clockwise direction.

Your pictures show the tyres on the wheels with the blue nuts have direction arrows facing anti clockwise. This should be how they are on the wheels with red nuts.

Again, sorry for poking My nose in but I thought you might like to know (cool model by the way :) ).

    All the best!.

I just hope it's not too much of a problem for Latsyrc!. I'm not even sure why it registered in My mind to be honest, just something sub concious!.

I'm a pain for picking faults on things, that's why I do the quality and warranty inspections at work. A small detail like like the one on those wheels and tyres can be the difference between a free repair under warranty and a £15,000 bill for a customer in My job.

(Friends and family like to take Me along when they're buying a new car and yet strangely, the sellers seem to hate Me! :D ).

Good eye and thanks for pointing that out! :D I looked at the instructions wrong and thought it was red on the fronts, blue in the back. It's an easy fix. :)
