Thanks again. I'm finished now and satisfied with the build. The first picture shows yellow arrows where the tubing should have been completed but wasn't for the model. I used some .3 mm stretch leather I got from a local necklace shop to create the rest. It was sort of a pain to get it to glue in place and ended up clumping a bit on the left side, then drooping down a little. I'll fix it later after another build that I'm excited to finish. I found a decent, lit display case for the model. I've since trimmed the engine cowl for a (slightly) better fit and fixed the wheel nuts as 4rePhill pointed out. It was more complicated than the others I've built, but very satisfying to finish. My wife pointed out that it's probably my best build so far. I may start doing a collection of Shumi F1 cars after I finish my matte black F430, and a WRC Colin McCrae Ford Focus I finally found. I've been wanting to do a McCrae car for several months and finally found one at my local shop. Hope you enjoy the pictures and that your builds are going well! +1 Mind me asking where you got it? $? A guy on Briansmodelcars built a similar lighted case a while back using bits from an LED flashlight - Very, very cool: http://www.briansmodelcars.com/forums/thread/555723/page/3 Cheers, Ian PS - I got diverted from the build when my workbench became completely covered with paint jars and decided to make a stand for 'em - That's done, so should be back in action "soon"
Latsyrc, that's looking fantastic!. I'm afraid I'm being picky again but the wheelnuts are still not in the right positions. You've got the red wheelnuts at the front and the blue wheelnuts at the rear end. It should be: Blue wheelnuts front and rear on the right hand side of the car (As the driver looks forward from the cockpit). Red wheelnuts front and rear on the left hand side of the car (As the driver looks forward from the cockpit). Also, your front left tyre is on backwards (pic 3). The white arrows should be next to the "P" of POTENZA and the "B" of BRIDGESTONE, indicating an anti-clockwise rotation. As it is at the moment, the arrows are next to the "A" in POTENZA and the last "E" in BRIDGESTONE, indicating a clockwise rotation. Sorry for being a pain in the a*se but I thought you might like to know. (P.S, please don't hate Me for noticing! )
Read the post again: 'I've since trimmed the engine cowl for a (slightly) better fit and fixed the wheel nuts as 4rePhill pointed out'
I got the case at a local store called "Michael's" that's mainly full of things my wife would love. They were on sale for $11, usually $16. Stock, the lights are set forward about .5 inch but it was too intrusive on to the car. I drilled out new holes in the base and placed them further toward the front. It also comes with a lit gas pump, but it neither fitted in the case or with the setting of the car. I should have clarified as johneli1 pointed out. I took these pictures prior to fixing the wheels and tubing. I'll take corrected shots later and post. But once again, good eye!
Very cool - We've got a few "Michaels" locally - I'll have to check 'em out - That's a *great* price! Also a great source for seat belt material - All kinds of "interesting" stuff - Just gotta think "out of the box" when wandering around..... *Alarmingly* good eye! I'm getting nervous about posting pix Cheers, Ian
Glad to hear it all got sorted in the end, it looks superb and that's a great looking display case. I've got to admit, sometimes it's a great benefit having an eye for such detail, especially doing quality inspections at work or when buying cars, but other times it can drive Me mad! (nearly had a breakdown rebuilding My house when I bought it and when My dad came to help, he wanted to kill Me! ). Keep up the good work guys, I'm seriously impressed!. (and please don't be afraid to post your photo's )
Looks like the model turned out great, hope the trimming worked on making the engine cover fit a bit more snug.
Thanks, i didnt paint every part that i should have done but did the bits i knew i wouldnt make a complete mess of so im quitting while im ahead
I know we have one finished but how is everyone else progressing? This isnt the main one i am working on at the moment so progress is slow but i have got a bit further Notice the elusive fuel flaps are now fitted Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I thought I was ready for decals but upon close inspection I found some rough areas in the side scoops and other areas that needed to be cleaned up. Also I remembered I had some scratch building to do that required a lot of handling so the decals had to wait. -F Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I used a clear coat on some parts that dissolved the zero basecoat I made a mistake on another part also and I haven't done much with it since. The parts that the clear coat messed up are sorted and back in primer so one day ill do a quick job and throw it together.
A Halfords spray can, its a chain of shops that we have over here for car parts/supplies etc. I had been told that they worked together but apparently they had changed the formula and I can confirm that the new formula does not work with Zero any more I have some 2K clear and have had a little go with it on this mini, seems quite good do I will use that from now on. I see. I've been using Tamiya's clear mostly. I occasionally have problems with decals with it, but have been mostly ok. What Mini is that? My wife still needs to finish her Mini racer.
Any progress guys? Been following closely! (Also to avoid opening a new thread; I'm building a Tamiya F2000 and am in need of some detailed reference photos. No particurlar grand prix as it is an OOB but it would be great to get some reference. I've looked everywhere to no avail (only a few)) Thanks!
