Wow, awesome pics. I can't get enough of old picutres. Where do you find them - books? (My collection is going to be vastly improved by those that you have posted) Thanks, again.
i'm in the process of getting my father's slides enlarged to 5x7 format... he has many wonderful shots of the ferrari team at daytona 67 when he was negotiating and selling drivers' gloves.....
Thank you so much for that spectacular display of old pictures. This is a very nice trip back on the memory lane. Take care, Roland E Linder F40LM
Hey, Mr. G., i remember a while back, you said the (clutch plate, maybe? i don't know my way around these technical terms) on the MK IV wasn't the original; that you replaced it with one from a (456?) so it was more condusive to street driving; are you doing the same with the P4...? If so, what kind of clutch (thingie) will you be using...? From another Ferrari or.........(?)
The clutch in the MK-IV is pretty close to original in fact it was rebuilt by the co. that made the original clutch. The gearing which in the MK-IV is very easy to change, you simply switch drop gears is different. At LeMans they used a 2.50 to 1 final ratio which gave the MK-IV a 223 mph top speed on the Mulsanne. It could have gone faster but the drivers had to back off before the end of the straight because the brakes couldn't stop it from a higher speed for the 25 mph corner at the end if they went faster. On the street I run a much lower final drive ratio which puts the torque where you use it on the street and keeps the revs up for cooling. I also use different brake pads and have "unfloated" the disks. The clutch in the P4 is the one that most vintage racers are using in the 512BBLm's. It's a system that Bob Wallace and Alberto came up with. As with the MK-IV the parts I changed are carefully stored and could be put back but for the street I'm not sure you'd want to.
Jim, How are we going with the Lola and P4. I guess the Lola must be pretty close to back together buy now? I saw my first Lola T70 last weekend and was amazed at how small it looked ... which I should have expected but somehow in the pictures it looks bigger. You must be very flexible to get into all these low cars . The only thing I hated about the Lola was that its incredibly loud rumble drowned out the '64 250GTO replica sound!!!! Anyway hope all is well, etc. Pete
Hey (As the young people say) All's moving along. The Lola will be back on the Road in about 4 weeks. Note aux rad. for extra cooling for street. (Will resize and post pics tomorrow) The P4 is coming along as well. We're making up fuel lines. All 30 feet of them! I enjoyed your posting about the race and the Historics. Best
Photos coming ... I'm a bit slow here as I have to do the scanning at home and then resize and then upload over a phone line ... becomes hard work, but I will get there. Pete
Here's Lola Photo's. http://www.gt40s.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=LeMans&Number=20857&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1 Best
