Hello Bruno. Factory blueprints are very valuable, because Ferrari never published or revealed them. For restoration shops or replica builders these are valuable. (How much I do not know) You could make the perfect replica with it I think.
Hi I was away but it's moving along well. I'll have some more pic's soon. I'm hopefull for July. This one takes your breath away...
After shimming, rebushing, and installing new uprights cast by Ferrari, if you gently push the spinner it will freewheel for quite some time. Dash with rebuilt instruments going back together. (Note long toggle switches also used on Lambo's)
Jim, What is the big round space in the center of the dash for? Quite unusal place for such a big dial...
That is where the vent for the fresh air system goes. The P4 has a system to bring outside air into the cockpit and the P4 coupes had unique roof exit humps/vents to let this air out. You can see these humps/ducts at the top edge of the roof in the shot of the rear suspension. This served two purposes. It cooled the cockpit and it kept fumes out. (On hot days the coupes could be converted to spyders simply by changing the tail, putting on spyder doors with cut down windows and taking a set of tin snips to the roof panel. If they expected rain they raced them as coupes. The coupes were also slightly more aerodynamic.) As I'm going to drive on the street and won't have the same flo thru that I'd get at race speed I'm going to hide some computer fans in the ducts.
If you took it to a concours (Pebble, and the like), would you get marked off for these alterations to make it a more comfortable road car, such as the computer fans, or the changes you made on your MK IV to make it easier to drive on the street?
Yes; and No. Usually anything done for safety is allowed by some. For example my Duesenberg has seat belts even though that's incorrect the CCCA does not deduct for that or safety glass which the Duesenberg did have but other cars of that period didn't. The MK-IV has won several trophy's including one at Pebble modifications and all. I'm always very careful not to do anything that can't be put back and more importantly without these modifications I couldn't use these cars as I want to so I really don't worry about it. When you see a car like this you feel it down to your toes. I doubt anyone is going to crawl into the ducting to look for computer fans and if that's what turns them on I think they're missing the point.
I showed a 550 Spyder @ a PCA event years ago, last time I ever showed @ PCA. Car won index of performance @ LeMans, I got dinked because a judge said the coils were not original...I said check the dump near the track, dig about 30 years down. Jim, do whatever you need to use 'em (I know you do) and concours be damned. At least Pebble is getting better. Got dinked with a D-Jag there for a race mod years back too. Drive'em like ya stole'em. Wish there was a Duesenberg chat.... Lee
Beautiful!!!!! I bet that car is amazing to take out for a Sunday Drive. Do you have any shots of the interior?
