As an aside, the latest copy of 'Octane' magazine in the UK has an article about David Piper and his involvement with Porsche 917s. It is illustrated with photos of David driving his well-known green 917 that he has owned since 1969, s/n 010................alongside another visually identical green 917 which is referred to only as "the other 917" that he is "shaking-down" (running-in). Hmmmm........ Paul M
Interesting that you should mention Piper's green 917. Just yesterday I received a close up photo of Piper's 917 that was sent to me by Paul. Paul told me that the 917s driver position put the driver's feet forward of the front axle line. This extreme forward position is what caused Piper his severe injuries during the 917 crash while filming the LeMans movie. But Piper still drives his cars hard and fast. Of course if Paul were here, he could post the photo.
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/337/piper91719705ro.jpg (copyright Nigel Snowden or The Speed Merchants Collection; from 'Octane') You can see the driver's seat attached to the back half half of the car; unfortunately Piper's right foot was caught in the other half. [Funny how things always come back to attempts to get a banned user restored......] Paul M
Especially when a banned user REPEATEDLY has so much to offer the forum concerning multiple topics under discussion,....0846, P3/4s, replicas, Porsche 917s, Piper, etc, etc,...... More pics of Piper's wrecked Porsche at this link: http://www.a2zracer.com/page33.html Gee, I wonder who could have informed me of those pics on that site just yesterday?
You must go here. Sorry it's in French.... !!!! But you speak it ! The two last posts and next page http://www.forum-auto.com/sqlforum/section5/sujet189904-630.htm
Gee the Bugatti 251 is such an interesting car. I wonder if with more development and commitment whether it could have been a winner ... had all the right incredients ... on paper anyway. Pete
I don't know if they could have made that weird cross torsion bar suspension work... I have some valve springs from the 251
Interesting in the old photos of the 251 at Reims that there are body differences (presumably two chassis), one with a deeper radiator intake and squarer intake on top of the bonnet than the other. In the shots in front of the chateau, what is the single-seat car with no. 1 on it? (Je ne parle pas le francais.....) Paul M
There were 3 coachwork variations on the two Tipo 251 GP chassis. Another difference is one has a "bump" in the middle of the nose, and the other two have basically an oval shaped front.
That is correct, The car is chassis #50180 and now on display in the Schlumpf collection since Fritz Schlumpf bought all the remaining cars from the bankrupt Bugatti factory in 1963! Sorry for the hijack, it was not meant that we should hijack this thread for discussing Bugattis, and I have plans to start a Bugatti discussion thread in the off topic section before long so perhaps we should move this discussion there! New thread for Bugatti discussions up and runing here:http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=92693 , everyone is welcome!!! Best regards Carsten
As an engineer who enjoys messing with old stuff you may enjoy looking this over to see whether or not you feel in this case that is what happened. http://www.glickenhaus.com/jim/project.pdf
I think that's a photo shop. Note that the parallel shadow does not cross Mr. Ferrari's arm... (mf)* *merely fooling
thats some document ive got to read. paralax can explain the shadow its the tacho reading that does it for me, thats a genuine 330 allright.
on page 19/128 has the nose allready seen very heavy sanding. and what did the inside of the panels look like.
Those were the NOS Nose and Tail I purchased from Piper as described on p13 and 14. Underside looked the same as the top side. The spyder tail now being fitted is from 0858 which was on 0854 when I bought her. See Photo Post 1141 in this thread.
my interest was in the fabrication technique. italian bodywork is very different to english.this one is english. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That looks like a very intricate replica with a detailed chassis. What can you tell us about it? Aren't most of the Noble/Foreman replicas made with square chassis tubing? Hard to tell from your picture if the chassis is made of square or round tubing.
