Jim, have you ever taken this car on a stroll through the streets of Harrison, NY? I would love to see/hear this thing on the street! Nice car, with a storied history (spent the last couple of hours reading the .pdf file). I am believe that yours is truly 0846 and fell into your hands with luck! If you ever get tired of answering all the questions, feel free to place the burden on me along with the keys to the car Best of luck with the conversions, Keith

i saw 0846 along with your ford gt40 at the canadian auto show in toronto a few years back...never knew there was so much controversy surrounding this particular ferrari...great reading this thread and learning the history of 0846...quite an impressive display in toronto...hope to see p4/5 some day...
In it's original guise, Daytona 24 hours 1967. One of the many slides from my father's archives that i am now cataloguing. Enjoy. http://img99.imageshack.us/my.php?image=scan0008sl6.jpg
No, no, I can absolutely guarantee that it is Bandini. My father took all of the pictures and I've only just begun to scan them. This next one is in the same sequence of shots, lousy scan I know, the original slide is much better. http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?image=scan0016qy3.jpg
http://blogs.wsj.com/wealth/2007/06/21/pimp-my-ferrari/ There will also be a track test of 0846 and J6 in Car and Driver (Sept Issue out in Aug) and they will both be at Quail.
hey Jim i just saw Victory by Design: Ferrari (great show!) and they did a piece on the Yellow P3 and the starting process for the car seemed like a 3 man job culminating with 2 mechanics hooking up an outboard battery on the back of the car. is it that tough to start 0846 and 0854? thanks much!
Hi The Yellow one is 412P 0850. It has a 2 valve P3 Typo motor with Webers as does 412P 0854. Both 0850 and 0854 were originally built as 412P's on P3 chassis but they were never P3's. Starting 0854 is very simple and a one person job. Switch on, stab the throttle twice, crank and as it catches feed it a touch of throttle but then quickly reduce throttle and let it idle for at least 5 minutes until oil PSI drops back to normal range. Raise revs to 2500 until oil temp comes off peg, blip throttle to clear plugs and set off. Carbbed motor is very tractable. Starting 0846 is a different matter. It has a 3 Valve Typo P4 motor with Lucas Mechanical FI. It is a two person operation. You have to move FI cam to full rich and even spray a bit of fuel into the trumpets to get it to fire. We warm up the oil first and crank it for a while before even trying. By pre-warming the engine we've got it to start without spraying fuel but it's tricky. Once it starts you have to work throttle gently as oil warms up but keep the revs low as oil PSI can get dangerously high when cold and blow oil filters clear off. Once it warms up you have to move FI cam to leaner. On the road it's not too happy as unless you leave it richer than it wants to be it's hard to idle and restart if you need to. It's very happy on the track and you can run her properly lean if you're running at speed as opposed to stopping at a red light. Car and driver drove both J6 and 0846 and I'm sure will have a comment or two.
thanks a lot Jim! the show seemed very vague as to which car they were actually driving. sounds like 0846 is a bit of a bear around town. when does the car & driver hit news stands?
The Car and Driver Article will be about The Ford Ferrari Wars and features J6 and 0846. Here's a shot Jesse took of J6 on the day they track tested them. I was driving at that time. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Find on a japanese website: http://automobile.2405.com/automobile_gallery/Ferrari/330_P3-4_0846_1966/ Hope it's not a re-post. Alan
Jim have you updated the 0846 papers recently? Also, I can't seem to find them anymore. Are they still posted on the web? Peter
Hi There are a number of interesting developments that will be added in a few months. In the mean time: http://www.glickenhaus.com/jim/project.pdf Best
