But afterwards you should never return to the Kingdom after he realizes how he was snookered into buying a fake.
Not who I was referring to at all. My reference was to who 3500 thinks he would be able to peddle it off on.
Right... But in the 0846 thread, I just wanted to emphasize that the only snookering was in this tangential, fictional sale by 3500GT and not that there was any snookering when JG bought 0846.
What is God's name are you talking about...why are you assuming any "snookering" on my part? Of course I'd have Steve there at sale screaming "fake, fake, fake", I would give him a healthy commission as well. Anything else you and Mr. Kennedy need to assume I might do???
you don’t think there is any possibility that Piper sold it with a little story while winking? Obvious why Piper wouldn’t want to go public with the story, if he believed it himself. However, off the record when selling if the story added a few extra hundred k’s, then why not if believing it. Part of deal could have been JG couldn’t reveal the story with Piper as the source. Jim then would have to come up with his own discovery and research story. that’s just all theoretical how Jim could have been snookered. All the evidence so far indicates that Piper didn’t think it was part of the chassis and Jim discovered on his own.
I don't know in the case of 0846. What I do know is that in the case of another Piper-mobile of similar nature (also of a significant racer), the language in the contract between Piper and buyer was extremely clear about what the car was, and wasn't. It stands to reason that the sale of 0846 would have been conducted in a similar fashion, but again, I don't know.
fair point, but I think most in this thread are smart enough to differentiate between talking about 0846 and Jim's 0846. also to the point about moving this thread to Replicas, I don't think you want to kill this thread off. you probably don't want this thread to be lost to history and educating those that need to be. Texas Forever is wrong yet again (daily) about me having any motivation for this thread related to traffic. it generates about 0.00000000001% of the traffic in this community, but over 20 years has wasted about 100% of my time.
Well, if you just titled it FAKE, it may sound odd, possibly title it as 0846, the FAKE. Regards, Alberto
But when the uninitiated/uninformed see the car being referred to as 0846 they understandably think it is the real 0846, not the fake 0846 it actually is. Would moving the thread to Replicas actually kill the thread off though? The information will still be accessible and people can contribute to it in exactly the same was as where it is in Vintage.
Sensible approach. Whatdya say, Rob? Is it time to clarify the thread topic while leaving it in the vintage section for all to see? Perhaps a change in wording from “The (one and only) '0846' Debate Thread” to something like “The (one and only) fake 0846 /DP003 discussion thread”?
Rob, you can't deny this thread helped put FerrariChat on the map. In the early days, most Ferrari "experts" looked down their nose at an Internet based "chat site." But, the 0846 debate sucked them all in. It certainly has been a long strange trip.
I'm not sure that's the legacy of this thread unless most of the top historians were in Jim's favor until Steven blew it apart. Maybe they were just lurking as there were hardly any posts against Jim except Steven.
Sorry, but this is simply untrue. There were experts who were already posting on F-Chat and other online forums, and then there were experts who avoided online forums in general. The latter were brought to F-Chat through other means and never took an interest in this thread.
I'm thinking about Gerald. Trust me. He may have never posted in this thread, but he had his opinions about the subject.
I know you participated in that group about which nobody speaks. However, the 0846 controversy helped put FerrariChat on the map. I'm not saying it is the only reason, just one contributory factor.
