Nose...
It's great to see it closing in on the finish line. But I wonder if the factory was this careful when they built it?
The techniques and materials are the same and those guy did have a lot of pride but it's hard to know. Others?
He didn't remember the name but I am sniffing around for other tidbits as i compile a story on Don Walker's collection and what happened to it after the bank siezed it all.
I don't know who is happier Jim for all his good work finally seeing the end or US at F chat for being invited along for the ride DAMN DAMN DAMN IT looks wonderful Mr G thanks
What color is the paint - did you match it to the older Ferrari red? On Victory by Design, I thought it was mentioned that the red on the old Ferraris is different from that of today - certainly not today's rosso corsa.
We mixed it by eye and by scan to an original panel. The 67 Rosa Corsa has a touch of violet. PPG helped us. The key is also using the proper etching primers and sealers. You also have to shoot test panels and look at them in the sun. The shape and the color takes your breath away.
How does the front clip attach? I assume it is rivoted on and thus you will have to paint the rivots? Pete
No it slides on and is fastened down with slotted cam locks which are painted. (Similar to small metric dzues fastners). The coolest part is the windshield which is mounted in it's own frame which is also screwed down and removable that way you can unscrew the top of the dash and reach all of the electrics. Very, very elegant. Greg did a great job painting. The exposed rivets came out really well. Best
So....what type of paint are you using for the final coats??? Acrylic urethene, enamel or something else??? Was this a two-stage BC/CC application and were the photos taken after the application of the CC (Clear Coat) I assume?? Just wondering.....BTW it looks real nice... VK
Not base coat / clear coat. This is not cleared nor will it be. It will be buffed after it drys. Exact formulation is something Greg of G&S Customs of Homer, Ill. (Who painted my Lola and IMHO is very talented) worked out with PPG. I'll ask him next week approx what it is.
Gawd, Jim, the crease on the engine cover transition from top to side...one of the prettiest details known to metal. Subtle, but huge transition going on there from 2 surfaces, curves from front to rear. Never been bettered. Rear fender of Cal, front 1/4 of J at lights, and hood view of XK120 from driver seat close, but P car is the shiznit. Glad she is coming apace. Molto Bene. Lee
Superb James. It's a great pleasure which to follow this rebirth and thank you still to make us share it stage by stage.
Thanks again! Lee the designer of the new Ford GT told me he stole that line and added it to the new Ford GT. Here are some photo's of my new shop. There are a lot of good ghosts here. Paul Neuman, Bob Sharp, Amerispec, Clint Eastwood, etc. We're heading out to bring her home.
