Enzo's are poofy road cars that Ferrari will not allow to race ... remember NNO. You are only supposed to cruise looking cool in those things. Owe how Enzo Ferrari would be pissed and putting so much effort into a mere road car ;)

How can I obtain your game? I'de love to race the P4! I'm a complete computer dimwit so I don't know much about how to work with patches etc. I've got Windows XP and GPL and can't even play that anymore because XP won't let me install it..

Can you imagine, just having bought an Enzo, being all on top of the world, driving it on a NY Highway. Then, a genuine 330 P4 blasts past... Wouldn't that just ruin your day? week? month? year? :D

Yes I did set damage to realistic. Nevertheless when I went past Eau Rouge on the old Spa track and lost it in the long left hander going downhill my P4 slammed sideways into the barriers at probably 150 mph. That should have ruined my day, but no.

So I'm thinking since this game is based on NASCAR racing such a sidescraping impact won't hurt the car as a NASCAR taxi is basically a chassis protected by steel from the Chicago bridges and waterworks covered by a skin of plastic. These cars were designed to tap each other into the concrete walls without too much damage. A P4 OTOH is a delicate flower with an aluminum skin and would probably wrinkle and stop driving after such an impact as probably wheels would be blocked or torn.

In Grand Prix 3 there was a variable in the physics model that defined how susceptible the cars were to accidents. If such a variable exists in N2003 it probably needs some tweaking.

Bigodino: No big deal to install the 330 P4 mode. First get yourself a decent wheel and pedals. Then buy Nascar 2003 from ebay. Thereafter PM me and I'll lead you through the rest.

No problem, I abused you to get my setup going, now it's my time to give back to the community.

If you change the damage sensitivity, please make sure that the same applies to the cc cars. Otherwise it ain't much fun if these guys punch me without getting affected themselves.

I'm not sure where you mean but most of Spa67 is lined with three strand wire fences and haybales,in general there are various surfaces you can come in contact with..in order of leathilness ,concrete, crash barrier, earth mound, tyres, haybales and wire fence

depending on object and speed/type of impact ,the mildest is a loss of speed (about 5% and up) rear end shunts seem to effect handling(downforce?) more,.
then you can have collapsed wheelstruts, damaged rad(which is basicly fatal) lost gears ,pistons and blown engines.(gear and engine damage is sometimes random)

With Spa I'm inclined to get caught in the fence at malmedy or go up the bank and roll it at le carriere p: :)

Yeah, I hit the fence not the armco, you're right about that. I guess I didn't realize, that Nascar 2003 is smart enough to differentiate between the surfaces you actually hit.

Coming from Grand Prix track programming I was just thinking of the "armco" as the border of the drivable area, which in GP3 is lethal to touch at high speeds. It doesn't distinguish between fence, armco, brick or straw, it's just an impenetrable wall. The bitmap applied to it makes it look different, but its hardness is always the same.

Now thinking about it I guess I should have realized that given the Sierra history: GPL didn't kill you instantly when you went into the bushes at Monza.

In case you don't have a wheel yet, I suggest the Momo wheel that also has a sequential stick shift in addition to the F1 paddles. That is more realistic for a P4 sim. They have such wheels normally as "Nascar" wheels. And make sure you pick one with force feedback otherwise you won't know what the car is doing. And for easiest installation pick one with a USB port, your Windows XP will recognize it and install the drivers for you.

Should do. The Momo wheel is just one of the many excellent Logitech force feedback wheels (I have a cheaper non-Momo version) ... and I have Windows 98.

The plus of the Momo wheel ... when I was looking is they appear to have more metal ... which if you are hamfisted can be a good thing if you want the wheel to survive a stressful passing manouver ;) :D

Yes it would. I had Win98 before XP. The big plus with XP is the built-in "intelligence" to recognize USB peripherals. Win98 was supposed to do that, but was flaky in doing so.

If you're concerned about peripherals, Microsoft has its own force feedback steering wheel, which I used before I switched to the Logitech Momo. Surprisingly the MS wheel was very, very good in its operation and feedback. Hassle free installation as it was immediately recognized by the operating system.

The downside on the MS wheel were its space looks, which don't really fit into a sixties racecar and it lacked a separate sequential gear shifter. But as a wheel it was fine; I would even say the FF was a tad better than on the Momo.

I was just wasting time at work looking at Monterey Historic Races section on the Barchetta site and noticed that they refered to 0846 as a reconstruction.

    What does that mean?

To me it means replica, as I would have called it a rebuild ...

I know that this car's heritege is still open to many ... thus they may have been playing safe :).

    Pete
ps: Not trying to stir the **** ... but I do have to admit being a little disappointed that the restoration has finished ... ;)

... this is a particularly good photo of theirs: http://www.barchetta.cc/All.Ferraris/images/1579/ferrari-330-528.jpg
