You ever type a big long several parapraph rant in this little rectangular box, look it over, edit it, re-edit it, fiddle with it and then hit the submit button and it takes a second too long and you know what's going to happen and you get that white screen of death saying the site is "temporarily not available' so you frantically hit the back button knowing full well it's not going to be there and you should have types it in WordPerfect and copied and pasted like you promised yourself you would the last time that happened?

Yeah, I have learned the hard way to always copy before submitting... Although maybe losing some of my posts might not be such a bad thing after all.

"temporarily not available" shouldn't be an issue these days. You may have a problem with your internet connection or settings, but the site is almost 100% stable these days. Word is too cumbersome, I always have a blank email up and paste the text in there, I have to spell check it anyway. If something happens, then I can always go get it from there.

Sadly, this has happened to me a few times Dr. Stribling, especially after writing a long and thoughtful response. Usually I get frustrated, and don't even respond to that thread anymore.

Well its not the only thing I hate about Fchat. Members who don't use the search option, and post a thread that has been covered 12342387239847298374293472347234792374239 times, irritate the crap out of me. But I take my medication, and stay calm ;) :D

    Rob,

It happened about 3-4 weeks ago, to me.

Not suggesting it was your fault although the title sounded that way (sorry).

I think its an eye-catching title to this little throw-away thread.

The issue is likely on my end. :)

Oh it also bothers me, how people refer to Dr. Stribling as Clifford or Mr. Gunboat. Sup with that!

Our stability went from about 98.5% to 99.9% over the past 4 weeks, so if you had this problem in past 4 weeks, it is most likely on your end. Before then, it could of been one of our outages.

Always paste into something else, as I said, good chance to spell check too.

I thnik Rob is telilling yuo guys taht yuor speling sukcs... :)

I use MS Word to cut and past - also allows for Grammer checking - like run on Sentences :p

The other thing you can do - which is pretty easy is - once you get a bunch of text in the little box - just highlight the text - and right click and pick copy... This stores in MS internal clip board - and if you do get an error or your text goes to the "void" - you can just right click in the box again and select past... Kind of a way to do a quick "back up" of your text...

Great tool. Loads into IE and you right click on a section of text and BAM...instant spell check.

not that I ever remember to right click....

This is similar to what i do; Ctrl A, Ctrl C, Tab, Enter and that's it; if it posts, great... If not, it's been copied and can be - Ctrl V - pasted...

Hahaha... we all have our methods... I, too, prefer not to use the mouse when I'm typing, but I use different shortcuts.

At the end of a long passage, I'll hold down the shift button, and hit "Page up" until I highlight the whole thing. (Sometimes you might need to use the arrow buttons in conjunction with shift to get everything you want.) Then, still holding shift, I hit Delete, then Insert. That does a cut and paste.

I also just noticed that instead of hitting enter if I'm highlighting a button, I hit the spacebar. :)

You know you've visited too many message boards over the years when you start laughing at a post like this and then join in the discussion on keyboard shortcuts!

Ummm....Ryan? Look at Senor Striblings info in his title bar. He's posted his name as 'Clifford T. Gunboat'. Sort of like Doody is 'Hugh Jass' and Maranelloman is 'Ivana Humpalot'.

Seriously though, there are two areas I would like to see improved upon.

    1) I wish people wouldn't repost the entire letter they are responding to if it's long.

    2) I wish people would respond to other's posts more. I grew frustrated with a previous site where people would only address the "topic" and not each other. This site is way better as you can see even in this thread, but occasionally someone puts a lot of work into a post and nobody reacts to it. I try to correct this when I can. Just something to keep your eyes open on.

    Otherwise, cheers!

    Wes
