LOL Living in the city is getting increasingly difficult.....I heard they are raising water rates, and taxes next year. I still don't understand how water can be so expensive in Toronto, when we live right next to Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, and Lake Huron, which the great lakes are the biggest freshwater lakes in the world!!! Don't get me started about the TTC......... It cost me 11$ to go downtown and back, (my wife and I) on the subway. It would've been faster and cheaper to drive and park. Its no wonder why one gives a sheet about the TTC. It sucks and its too expensive!
And when those poor TTC workers that can't speak english and sit on their asses all day think they need a raise, they can hold the city hostage by shutting the entire system down. Fire em all and hire people that want to work for a living!
Also when I was in TO last weekend, I saw a Nissan GTR, first one I've seen. Did I mention a lot of Bentlys, sweet, and Porsches, well they're as common out there as Hondas here, just not as reliable (sorry Porsche lovers, just kidding) heeheehee Ciao, we got our first snow today in Winnipeg.
Lots of smart english speaking people working there 3 days on 4 off pay over 6 figures *impossible* to get fired
Ryan, don't even go there.....talking about TTC workers makes my blood boil. These people are so damn lazy, and inconsiderate, and they are paid a fortune for it. I tried asking a ticket collector for change, and she looked at me like I was some kind of space alien, she couldn't make eye contact with me, or even speak loudly enough for me to hear her. I had to ask her 3 times to speak up to understand her. A good example last month, (at a Leaf game) I noticed 2 TTC maintenance guys chatting at Union station both holding Tim Hortons cups. They were obviously at work because they had the walky-talkys and tool belts on. When we left the game2 hours later, the same guys were standing in the same spot and the buckets and tools were in the same spot! I was also reading in the news about how the TTC workers are eligible for a permanent sick leave if they have 30 days (or something like that). And also many TTC workers are required to bring in a doctors note after 20 sick days a year. 20 sick days a year?? I would get fired if I was sick 2 days out of every month.
When I read this, I found it hard to believe that bus drivers and maintenance workers pulled in 6 figures. So I did a search. Got this report summarizing the 96-07 $100k+ club from the TTC (provincial law requires disclosure for gov't employees making $100k+) http://www.atu113.org/100000club.html The list looks to be mostly managers, supervisors, foremen etc. I did see 1 "Station Collector". Just thought I'd add some facts before the rhetoric goes too wild. I'm no fan of what unions have done to industry in Canada. And when you are paying more for a job than the value it delivers, the job will stop getting done. At least it does in the private enterprise world, where you go broke if you don't do that.
That Ticket Collector that made over 100K worked something in the area of 450 shifts that year. That is an average of 1.2 shifts a day including Christmas and New Years. He deserves it! There is no other blue collar TTC worker that makes over 100K a year.
I disagree many drivers do OT bonuses wheel trans etc. 1/2 my extended family works for the TTC seen the stubs Also sick days is not 20/year. It's wores. What happens is they don't get sick "days" they get sick "incedents" one incedent can last X ammount of days before requiring a doctors note So guess what - if you call in for 1 day, might as while stay away for X days, it still counts as 1 "incedent" used up no one wants to waste incedents...
Not sure if the $100k+ report includes hourly-paid individuals. Since there's a ticket collector there, I would assume it does. If your extended family has T4s with TTC earnings in excess of $100k and aren't on the list, then maybe it doesn't. Mark
Not sure how they have to report Also haven't seen T4's just pay slips There is a possibility I'm wrong but I have a hunch the reporting is done so everyone reading that website doesn't become furious
575man, if your looking for dealer auctions in the GTA there are two main ones Adesa Toronto which is located in brampton at goreway and 7, you also have Manheim Toronto (Toronto Auto Auction) in Milton on Lawson road. They both have other locations that are smaller, Adesa Kitchener and I think manheim in oshawa.
I think you should run for public office and make a difference instead of *****ing about it. Most of those "lazy" people are supporting families, mortgages and paying taxes in a job I wouldn't want. Some obviously abuse the enviroment they work in, so what.....How would you like to be working in a glass cage for 8 hours a day dealing with pricks who have no patience and talk down to you? I feel bad for people that work in those jobs, I try to treat them with respect and patience.
Actually Mark my brother just started driving buses for the T.T.C about a month ago and I can guarantee they don not make anywhere close to $100,000 I think it's something like $52,000 he's making maybe after 30 years it' could potentially get up there but the average joe doesn't make $100,000 working for the T.T.C
First of all tell Shaheen he's queer and second of all if you worked at those places why wouldn't you ask Mikey for help or Tommy? they'll help you if you need it. Also if you're thinking about opening a dealership one day, don't. p.s I started the high-end retail division at North York Chrysler.
That's correct. In addition there is also the The North Toronto Auction in Barrie which I havent been to in years. Then there is the public auctions such as Auction Direct. However, I would not recommend Auction Direct to nobody. I had a horrible experience with the owner (the story truly is hard to believe). You then of course have the RM Auctions which is a great success story that started in Chatham Ontario. Now the premier auctioneer worldwide for specialty cars (ironically their Toronto auction may be their worst). There are a few smaller ones for dealers too. Can't remember the names right now
Well, that's what I suspected. It's all to easy to beat up on the wrong people with half-baked data. There are enough real problems to solve without inventing ones. Anyhow, I suspect most of the folks on this forum are pretty damn fortunate compared to the majority of folks who are just slugging through things day by day.
Whats the difference between that and working downtown on Bay St. ? Pretty much the same environment except you go to work wearing an Armani suit and have lunch at Bymark. Work is Work, stress is stress. We all get paid to do a job. These unionized TTC employees are getting paid alot to do very little, and they can't even 'do little' properly. I don't want to paint every TTC employee badly, but there is an above average amount of deliquent workers who are doing a bad job at the TTC. I have many employees at my shop, and I treat everyone equally no matter what background they come from. I have employees from Vietnam, India, China, Korea etc. You must be very patient and diplomatic as an employer these days, because employees hold many rights, and everyone deserves to be treated according to their performance. I treat others the same, many of us grew up in immigrant families, and know what it means to work hard for your living, therefore teaching us the value of friendship and respect amongst others. I can't understand how all these TTC workers get 30 sick (paid!!) days, and can collect huge pension and manage to get a 5% raise every year. That is very unnecessary IMO, when other employees in the private sector are being laid off, demoted and receiving pay cuts with the slow economy. Scott, please explain how that is fair?
Respectfully, I think you miss my point. I chose whom I work for, I pick my clients and I work because I like it, not because I have to. I don't give out TTC tokens for a living in a glass cage. You ARE painting a large group of people with a very broad brush. Define, quantitatively, what "above average" is in your research.....I run numbers for a living so I'm interested to see if you have actually researched this TTC phenomenon or if you are just complaining without providing factual answers. If I was a TTC employee supporting a family I would think this is fair, I'm not. I am self employeed, I have no sick days, to me thats fair. Life is rarely fair, but why besmirch the hard working union controlled workers as lazy? So, show me the research. I'm still waiting for that business plan on Mosport...... P.s. I wear Brioni, eat lunch at my desk and Bymark has sucked for years.
My numbers are somewhat correct according to news reports. ....in other words, no research, strictly complaining. Yes, and it will somehow include B-Mak on the board of directors. My mistake...the TTC ticket collectors wear Armani. LOL
CNC Machine shop. Without getting into specifics, we manufacture many imporant aircraft parts, for Airbus, NASA and others. We also design and create tooling to make plastic products. (Moulding and extrusion). We also design and manufacture custom auto parts, such as high performance wheels, axles, hubs, pistons and connecting rods. (Titanium, magnesium, etc.)
Hahaha...cheers mate! (its a recession, so maybe they wear Armani Exchange....) They are lighting off fireworks tonight in London, crazy...heading off to the Nam Long bar down the road from my flat here in South Ken, they have a drink called the "Flaming Ferrari"...whenever its ordered (and lit on fire) they play the sound of a Ferrari F1 car accelerating over the sound system...its hilarious...and next door to the Ferrari dealer here on Old Brompton Road...so, I guess it makes sense.
