It's time for the Cayenne Turbo to go I think... had it for 18 months, great car, but I fancy a change. Help me decide what its replacement should be... The data you need is... 1. My wife has a Volvo XC90 D5 that she's keeping - so we'll always have a big family car. 2. I have a 575 for the weekends 3. I have two small children - twins - 5 years old (size: small) 4. Primary use for daily car - 30 mile round trip to station. Once a week into London and share daytrip duty at weekends. Don't want to be worried about mileage. 5. I'm worried about cannabalising the 575 Ferrari experience - I want something fun to replace the Cayenne, but I don't want its replacement to come too close to the 575 that I begin to question having it. 6. Must be RHD. Here's my thinking so far. a. A Bentley Continental - a real stretch, but if I could get one for £80k (at some point soon) I'd go for it. Any sign of these hitting £80k soon? b. A 996 Turbo c. A 996 C4S Cabriolet d. A new 997 C2S e. A new 997 C2S or C2 Cabriolet - a bit of wait for these - not good at waiting once I've made up my mind. I've ruled out another Ferrari as it fails my criteria on almost every count. If I've forgotten something, then please let me know. I'd love to hear some more options. And if any of you have any ideas of what I should be paying for any of the above (or your ideas) I'd appreciate your views. Looking forward to your great ideas. Many thanks, LWR
No question for me ; Audi RS6 Plus , engine mods , sports exhaust the lot Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
A 996 C4S/turbo would prob be a bit too similar to the 575 for your liking. I would go with something like the RS6 or an AMG merc.
How about the new AMV8, about £80k Could have a long wait for one and i'm not sure if its got back seats....so probably not a good idea then!
Great suggestions... I notice nobody has endorsed the Bentley idea.... I'm looking at a 53 plate 8k mile Black with Natural Brown Leather 996 Turbo - a few nice extras - Sat Nav, BOSE etc. 6 Speed. Original selling price £94k mine for £68k... Is that a good deal? Will I take a bath on it when I sell it in 2 yrs? Thanks for the input so far... keep it coming. LWR
You have a 4x4 and a true sportscar. Add a luxury car and you've got everything. Mercedes CLS Maser Quattroporte 5 or 6 series If you would go for another Porsche I would prefer a 997. 997 S so much more better looking then a 996...
Doesnt the thought of leaving something as conspicuous as a Bentley at the station worry you? What about the new M5?
Mercedes CLS is a nice idea... As much as I like the Quattroporte, I'm going to wait out the impact of the Fiat move before buying another Maserati
If you have the Fcar and need something fun, fast, and comfortable as a daily, why not consider a Mercedes SL55?
CLS : the first Mercedes for the catwalk. You've got something special, german engineering with kind of Italian design. It uses quite some technical elements from the E-class which now is finally 100% evolved. 350 V6 , 500 V8, 55 AMG. Imagine this car next to your 575 on the driveway...
-Used CL600 has every single gadget and toy you could ever dream of- but definetly not as sporty as the Porsches.. -An early Maserati Coupe can be had for less than $60k - BMW M6? Just a few.. Could go all day..
The only thing your ctiteria doesn't mention is the dreaded depreciation. 996's & 997's will / are going to drop in price like lead ballons. I bought a jan 2002 car in jan 04 for £51, and the best I could get for it a year later was £39. 4s's & turbo's are hit even harder, and as someone has already mentioned on the this thread its probably going to be too close to your 575 (the turbo that is). I would opt for an M5 or the new RS4.
I put down a deposit on the new RS4 last week: 4wdr, 420bhp, 4 doors, very discrete if you de-badge it - topically a car you can drive in the snow (anybody else not got a car that can cope with mild precipitation without progressing sideways?). Had one of the old ones from new and made a (small) profit on sale after 12 months and 7k miles p/ex on an Aston. Which other car can you do 0-60 in around 5 seconds carrying 4 passengers and a full-sized fridge? If you decide it's not for you when it's delivered, just sell it for a tax free £2-£3k profit - Not a bad return on £1500 over 9 months - beats ISAs. jg
But just like ISAs the past performance record should not be taken as a guarantee of future performance!
Ken True, but the deposit is returnable, so you're only on risk for about 6 weeks from specifying it to when the car arrives - Close enough to have a pretty clear view of whether the press have savaged it or hyped it. Effectively you're buying an option at £nil - a near risk free return. jg
I'd get a Lamborghini Gallardo, fit a roof rack and put the fridge on the roof. And the 2 extra passengers can take the bus. ;-))
