I personally wouldn't call it progress but I agree that time marches on. I have no expectations of our "good old days" returning, I'm just glad I got to experience it. IMO the root of the problem is most of the cars are now bought simply as an investment portfolio by someone with a banker mentality. They acquire a massive collection focused on low miles and "as new" condition and then park them in ornate, personal museums where they don't see the light of day unless they happen to be trailered to an occasional event. At the end of the day it's their money so they can do as they see fit but I don't have to like it.
You are conflating 2 different groups. The people who are creating their own personal museums are the guys who have been there and done that have all the trophies and experiences, gone to all the events and now have more money, less time and less motivation to do it over and over at overcrowded venues full of people who are not even really sure why they are there and think Ettore Bugatti is a fashion designer. That first group were/are the real enthusiasts but it all changed for them, same as us. The gaggle of newer money and less interested in history or racing is a a decidedly different bunch. And no, our old days are not coming back. Its why we went the first time. Change was inevitable.
Just think that 20+ years from now, the currently growing & reigning demographics will be lamenting about their “good old days” and shaking their heads to see holograms or NFTs of Ferrari SUVs, Teslas or some hybrid minivans at Quail or Pebble in “preservation class, while their beloved Murcielagos or Paganis are considered antiquated dinosaurs by the generation coming up after them. Laguna Seca and many others will be long gone, etc…
Well, if you wish be a "Lifestyle" star, you need to accessorize, dress and smell like one ... ... or you might be mistaken as one of the "unwashed".
^^You guys need to go to the Rennsport Reunion next year in Monterey. Some new cars, yea, but the celebration is of the old cars, and race cars at that, which are all racing nearly the entire time on the track of Laguna Seca behind you!
I love it when you talk durty. But you're right, everything changes, nothing stays the same. Some try to drive looking in the rear-view mirror. I prefer to look out the windshield. Frankly, I doubt I'll ever buy another Ferrari, but there are a lot more cars, and motorcycles, out there just waiting for me to pick up the keys.
Brian do I remember someone was getting you the vins? I think there were 5 and I felt dumb that I didn’t know where the vins were… Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Thanks for sharing the time with me today, lots of fun and enjoyed the Renault tie in story. Loved seeing the 550 powerplant. The photo you posted here earlier didn’t do justice to how impressive the car is in the flesh. Congrats
Sorry I missed ya as well… I got late notice that JSinNOLA also made it to Quail. It was a whirlwind. My white MurcieSV was on display in the first pic. I’ve been driving around a white CGT this weekend as well. Funny cat story. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This was one of my favorite cars as well. I also got a chance to chat with JJ and the overall build is very impressive. I was the one that said… if you ever want to sell it ….. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Unfortunately I made a late arrival because I got to the Quail at 11AM without realizing that the wristband was back at Pebble, which took almost 2 hours to retrieve given the traffic! But even still, I hadn't been to Quail before and found it to be quite impressive. Will be out at Pebble later today and all day tomorrow.
I feel dumb I didn’t get you the full lineup or back up vins but I didn’t see them in the “normal” spot
The gray one didn’t have it in the typical spot and the Dakar di the gray one was open and i didn’t see it in the door or jamb or windshield or any plaque like a 550. Also looked at the Dakar and couldn’t find it so gave up after those 2
A friend of mine who attended the Quail defined it perfectly: ".... and then there is Quail which has the most ostentatious display of wealth and silicone of any car show on earth." He certainly has more taste than the never driven always posing Zupercar brigade since he arrived there with a friend in a 1950's Bentley having done a week long touring rally.
+1 it's been nothing more than a lifestyle event for years now, draws every social climber on the peninsula.
Notwithstanding the criticisms of prior posts, there were some special vintage cars at the event. Below are a few I don't think I saw in Marcel/Miurasv's posts.
