    Having done something like this once (but on a car from Sant' Agata) I found it theraputic. From the tone of your narrative I suspect the same for you. I assume you are in Italy watching the work progress. I could not imagine a better holiday and am envious of your project. It makes me feel like finding an eBay 348 to sand down to bare metal.

    Thanks for sharing, this has become my favourite thread.

    Thanks John, yes you are right I do find it therapeutic, I have always loved a big project. Strange as it may sound, I take as much satisfaction from restoring a car, as I do from driving the finished item. A project like this gives you a real sense of accomplishment, and it is made even more special by the fact it is such a beautiful historic car.

    I also take a lot of pleasure from sharing the process on this forum, it’s nice to give something back to the members.

    The car is in Italy, and I am in London, but I am very hooked into the process. All the mechanical parts are here in London - they are all work in progress at the moment. Pictures will follow when we are finished with the body work.

    I recall an interview with Jay Leno a while back and when asked why he did not have any Ferrari's, and he stated one of the reasons was the false history of many cars she saw. Jay stated that he was seeing Daytona's with claimed 1,400 original miles that in reality had a lot more, and there was so much deception in the market it totally turned him off.

    I had heard Leno say it was more of a class issue. Whereas Ferrari's seemed too far away from his blue collar roots and they didn't fit into how he saw himself.

    Maybe since Duesenbergs are more in the past that marque was less of an issue for him. Of course he has plenty of plush cars, that was not his point. It was how he perceived the cars -aura?-

    Don't get me wrong. I like Jay and think he's great for the collecting hobby but on the subject of Ferraris he's being a bit coy.
    A real comedian you might say ;)

    The line of holes is where the door had been crushed in in that area sometime in the past and a body man drilled screws/nails into the door skin and used a slide hammer to pull out the dents.

    Looks to me as if someone opened the door into a curb that was a bit higher than the bottom of the door.

    No i like it, it may not be original to the car but it is certainly period. As i intend to use the car (a lot) when finished, I think the luggage bar and straps will come in very handy. It will also be a great safety feature and stop me getting a smack in the back of the head as i brake hard and knock it down a few gears for the next hair pin - i want to stay conscious to hear that beautiful down change sound and the pops of the 6 bank of weber carbs!!
