That photo captures a moment in time. Who knows what they were looking at a second earlier or a second later. I have a black mondial 3.2 cab. This weekend I took it to a charity event. I was surrounded by a Barchetta, F40, Murcielago, Scuderia, 355, etc. As I sat and talked, I watched tons of people stop to look at my car, talk about it, look in, etc. I sat on my stool and laughed, thinking---What in the hell are these guys wasting their time looking at my car, when there is an F40 nearby. A couple of people later stopped me to ask me about my car, and told me it was the Ferrari they always wanted. If my experience over the last year is any measure, the Mondial's reputation is growing in stature. As somebody put it at a recent C&C, there are so few Mondials around anymore, much less good ones, that in reality your chances of seeing one is extremely rare...making it a true exotic! All I know is that I got a ton of compliments at the Reading Ferrari event and this past weekend. The Mondial is a beloved car, despite what the detractors may say. I mean seriously...Mondials are beautiful.. (Photo taken by Bill Proctor) Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have the exact same Mondial.. 82, black w/red interior. I saw your post earlier about your car, I didn't pay much for mine either and restored it over the last couple of years.. shoot me an email or PM if you have questions about the car! Yours looks great, very cool indeed. and you know what, the people who are looking at those cars do not own one most likely. They don't get it, and even more likely even our "lowly" Mondials are out of their reach... Their wives won't let them have them, or they can't turn a wrench left or right, so the "mechicanical expenses" are just TOOOO much for them.. HAHA.. Anyway.. good to see another car on here, especially one that is just like mine! Jim
I wish I had a pic of mine. I have the yellow fogs too.. that car is exactly like mine except I have red interior. Sweetness.
jedi, I couldnt agree more. The sad (in jest of course) part is that nobody is focusing on the beauty of the mondial!
At the All-Italian Drive-In a month or so ago I parked next to Kuzi's F40. At the Italian Concours two years ago I parked next to a 275 GTB/4. Talk about being invisible!!!
As a 308gt4 owner for nearly 18 years, I feel your pain. We 308gt4 owners were made to feel like unwanted second cousins almost from the release of the car on the market. Those early reviews that said they were not true Ferraris because they looked different, were not badged Ferrari and had a V8 (good Lord!) seemed to start the rot. Time has told a different story and now they are described as "cool", a clever design solution from Bertone to incorporate mid-engine & 2+2, light, nimble, great handling, great motor, with a body that now stands out today as rather modern/timeless. It's (dare I say it) becoming a bit cultish! And Mondials are cool, too. The photos on this thread show how good they can look. Every dog has his day - Woof, I say! Cheers, Grahame
If you owned a 246 Dino as I did in early eighties, it was no different. Once I took mine to a show and I was told "we park those over there... away from the REAL Ferrari's." I kid you not.
Talk about sad... I parked next to a Bizzarrini, and nobody's looking at it except ME! Image Unavailable, Please Login
+1. My father loves the Mondial. Recently he told me - if I would buy one - it would be a Mondial, 308 or a 360.
No - I dont think you get it... Everyone seen in that photo just GOT OUT OF that Mondial. They are now all telling others how cool it is to have four people enjoy a Ferrari all at once. The F40 owner (not in the photo) is gazing over at the Mondial genuinely impressed.
Subtle and tasteful beauty is often the most enduring beauty. If you were going out on the town every night with Britney Spears or Jennifer Lopez you're sure to be noticed, but it would get old real quick...
All I know is that I got a ton of compliments at the Reading Ferrari event and this past weekend. The Mondial is a beloved car, despite what the detractors may say. Very nice car. Not to change the subject, but I recognize the Senega transporter in the background. Belongs to Enrique Senior. Used to live in the Orlando, FL. area but now is down south in Ft. Lauderdale. Has a bunch of Ferraris, at least 1 of each of the V-8 models (execpt the F-40). See him at all the shows in Florida, real nice guy.
It's annoying at times that there are so many people that know nothing about these vehicles that show up at these events. Similar to that amazing Bizzarrini I watched at last years Wheels of Italy event in Minnesota as some people freaked out over a Diablo but would walk right past an ATS 2500 GT not knowing it is one of the most insanely rare vehicles they will ever see. I didn't get a picture then but I think this one makes the point. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cronin: I too see this at many of the events I attend. Most are not in tune with the vintage cars but are drawn to the later model exotics. It seems that rarity, cleanliness vs. age means nothing to these people. Most are drawn to the F-40s, Enzos, Scuds, Diablos, Galardos, Carrera GTs & GT3s and other later model exotics etc.. I don't get it as for most of those cars, these folks will never be able to justify ownership, nor will they ever enjoy the thrill restoring or maintaining the cars themselves as they are too specialized and complex for most. And yes, I do understand that some buy the later model cars becuase they are not interested in restoring or doing they're own maintenance... I also realize that many of these poor car are not driven and enjoyed becuase some aren't interested in paying for the maintenance either! :-0 Hey.. I'm just saying..
Exactly. If an F40 parked next to my car, I'd be staring at the F40. If you want attention in a Mondial, park it in a row of BMW 3 series. It's a conservative car, in a conservative color. No mystery.
