I thought I would just clear things up for some people who may still not know exactly what that red switch on the steering wheel of the F430 functions. I found Motor Trend explains it in the simplest form.

Ferrari's innovative "manettino" integrates and allows driver control of several key functions, including stability and traction-control systems, damping, E-Diff operation, and gear change speed on F1-equipped F430's. Using a variety of inputs (from steering angle and throttle position to feedback from accelerometers), these various systems are tied together via five different modules. In counter-clockwise order.

    CST OFF

Stability and traction controls are deactivated. Special E-Diff setting. F1 shift and damping settings are the same as in Race mode.

    RACE

Reccomended for agressive street or track use; most agressive F1 shift mode and damping; traction and stability controls are dialed back.

    SPORT

All-around performance driving; medium damper, F1 shift, traction, and stability control settings, still allowing modest oversteer.

    LOW GRIP

For wet or low-grip situations; F1 paddles still active, maximum stability and traction control.

    ICE

Emphasizes smooth vehicle reaction; F1 in automatic mode, maximum stability and traction control turned on.

    Wow, thanks

That’s the best (simplest) explanation I have head yet. I do have one question however, what setting does the switch have to be in to use the launch control feature? I think that I heard that you have to be in "Race mode" and if this is so, is it possible to move the switch while driving or can you only move the switch while at a stand still.

    Thanks,

    Bevan

Thanks .... I guess the Manual gearbox version will be exactly the same except for the F1 part in your manettino description

No LC? that's what we yanks deserve for persuading so many makers to do away with proper manuals.

    WHAT!?!?!?!?!?

NO Launch Control, thats the best part of the car!!! I cant believe it. DAMN, Well I guess that means that I am going to have to find a EURO Spec F430 that most closely matches my desiered options.

The "LC" in my eyes is mandatory!!!!!!

    This SUX big time....

    So get a stick shift.

Thanks for the explanation- nice to have it consolidated. Now whats that special e-diff setting mean? 100% power to the outside wheel for even more power oversteer?

    Best regards,
    Jerry
