It has become a Christmas Eve tradition for me: Alan Maitland's reading of "The Shepherd". It is a masterfully done story of a Vampire fighter jet pilot losing instruments over the English Channel at night in thick fog. He is "shepherded" to a safe landing by a ghostly apparition of a Mosquito fighter bomber.

It is presented each Christmas Eve by "As it Happens" on the CBC. Our local public radio station carries the show and everything I am doing is put on hold during the presentation.

Is there anyone else that has heard and enjoyed this great story?

I am so glad you posted this. I have been glued to this story since I fisrt heard it 3 years ago. There is something I cannot explain about it and I too drop everything each Christmas eve, turn out the light and sit in front of the radio. Anyone interested in aviation history you must listen to this. I found the podcast:
