This seems to be the month that all of the magazines are doing their full tests on the Solstice. R&T and AutoWeek gave great reviews, and apparently (I haven't read the article), C&D picked it in a comparo vs. the new Miata. I don't hold much stock in C&D comparos anymore thanks to the bogus "Gotta have it factor", but the car is garnering a bit of positive media.

I'm very tempted to put a deposit down. I'm crazy about the looks. But, of course, the sticking point is that its a GM. If I'm going to get one, I don't really want to wait. Cool little cars like this always find a way of having their suspensions softened or ugly aero mods added in future model years.

Are you embarassed to own a GM vehicle? If you like it, want it, then just go and get it. Don't be ashamed...

I'm not ashamed of driving a GM. I can't really talk, being that I've driven quite a few Fords in my time, but I'm leery of owning a brand new, untested in the real world platform from a company that anecdotally has a poor reputation for both quality and fit and finish.

I probably will end up getting it, I was just shooting the breeze. Now I just have to find a dealer that can get me one at MSRP or less before next summer.

I hate to admit it, but I would be. If this was the new Jaguar F-type instead, with a sweet interior and those Jag badges, I'd be writing a check yesterday.

Solstice looks very nice, though. Maybe wait till they work out the usual bugs and offer the bigger engine.

I haven't seen it in person yet, but the stylists really did an ace job, especially the back end.

Good luck finding one. They are out there- look for dealerships in the sticks, in a cold climate. Say youll buy it if they drive it out to you.

The Solstice is cool. I am wating for the stripped out clubsport version though.

Did anyone else see that episode fo the apprentice where their task was to design a brochure for this car? That girl (who won) ended up designing the brochure they actually used for their PR campaign. It seems like a great value for money car.

    I know the grille has pontiac heritige, but the uncanny BMW resemblance is only gonna make this a "me too" car rather than an "it" car. The poor people that purchase this splice of DNA will no doubt have a well rehearsed answer;
"No, this is not the new BMW"

All that aside, judging by the reviews, it seems quite okay. GM okay.

the car actually looks pretty nice on the road. im not sure if their out yet but they are being built about 15minutes from my house so i've seen about 2 pre-production models out for road tests.

Cool little car but with GM's notoriety and the fact that the car's intro. has already been pushed back several times for quality issues, I'd wait on buying one until at least the second year of production.

And I'm in the camp that thinks the Saturn version looks better. Not to mention the Saturn dealerships are typically worlds better than the average Pontiac dealership.

To long of a waiting list for me, i would wait and bit and maybe buy one slightly used. It looks pretty cool though.

My Mustang has put on 40k fairly trouble free miles. Sure, somehow the valve cover had a hole punched in it sometime during manufacturing, and the main power supply bus to the computer failed once, and the passenger door rattles, and the CD player won't eject discs without severe coercion, and the leather is cracking, and the 1-2 shift grinds when hot or cold, and the throw-out bearing is starting to chatter.....

But at least the resale value is holding up. Oh...wait.....

The Opel Speedster is built on a slightly larger Lotus Elise chassis, mid-engined, and nothing like the Solstice/Sky.

But certainly, GM is using Opel designs elsewhere in Saturns, and the look is somewhat similar......

I think the Saturn looks like a mini C6 vette. I wish they would bring the Vauxhall VX220 to the US and throw on a 30k price tag. Now that I would buy.

Of note is the weight of the vx220 (~2200 lbs) vs the Solstice (~3000 lbs). Bummer that we get the heavy one :( I'd be willing to be it won't handle half as good too. But that's the price we pay for being in America - land of the highway and the consumer who doesn't know how to go around turns.

Also of note is the kappa platform which IS essential a mini C6 platform. For my money, I'd NEED that 250 horsepower turbo though.

I checked out a Solstice at our local dealer today. It was locked and I did not bother to ask for any assistance. This car's body design is pretty sweet. I may go drive it. My fear is that it will drive, sound and break down like just about all the crap that Pontiac has put out!

27 grand nicely loaded should buy the Solstice GXP with 260hp and 260 lb.ft of torque.

Its going to be pretty dam hot for a low priced sports car.
