Here is a web site selling engine sounds as ringsignal downloads for mobile phones (!), which may be of interest to this forum. Why? Because, among the engine sounds offered, there is one from a Dino under full throttle acceleration. And what a good sounding Dino it is!
(Disclaimer: I have no connection to, or commercial interest in this site.)

It turns out that the Dino in this recording belongs to Peter Juhlin, a Dino enthusiast in Sweden who, in his own words, has been "eating, sleeping and breathing Dinos for the last 26 years". Peter is known as Rosso Corsa Motorsport on this forum. He has modified his engine quite a bit, but I think it has retained the traditional Dino sound - only better! And listen to that quick 1st to 2nd gear shift! Peter does not believe that the Dino transmission needs to be babied - and I agree.

The site has misidentified the car as a GT. Obviously, it is a GTS. The serial number is 07066, a late, Euro spec. Dino. Of the specifications listed on the site, I can easily believe the 220 hp @ 8,000+ rpm claim, but not the 1000 kg weight. But then again, who is counting - just listen and enjoy!

    http://www.motor-tones.com/

The Ferrari 275 GTB on this site may also be of interest, with a long racing history. It participated in a total of 43 races between -65 and -68.

If you feel like checking out some of the other sounds on this site, make sure you do not miss the two-stroke SAAB Sport, unleashing all the fury of its 52 hp, 841 cc engine! I love it.

    Thanks, Lars
Once you get past the, in my humble opinion, over-revving at engine start, look out! I am amazed at how this Dino pulls hard through the gears and how fast the engine revs to/past redline...in every gear! The guy has cajones: Power-shifting and/or speed-shifting a Dino! Wow! That little jewel does naught-to-top-end on very short order.
Mr. Juhlin claims 220 cavalli. That seems conservative, based on what we are hearing on the recording. I agree, Lars, that 2200 pounds would be pretty light for a Dino. Hell, my 289 Cobra weighed about that (& was cranking out over 400 horses with a modified Boss 302 shoehorned in...but, that's the stuff of another thread!); and, there's a whole lot less stuff in a Cobra. I don't doubt that this Dino was put on a diet, which would account for a significant part of the performance gain. I wonder what was done to the engine and the car.
    'still can't believe my ears!
    Coop
Post Script: The 275 sounds a bit lackluster after hearing the Dino! No speed-shifting there & methinks he's staying comfortably clear of the redline.

Yes, Coop, the 275 GTB sounds a bit disappointing after hearing the Dino. It sounds like it is out on a leisurely Sunday drive. Perhaps the driver is thinking about the possible cost of a rebuild for that 12 cyl. engine...
The Dino is really impressive, though. Glad you liked it too. That is how a Dino should sound - and gain revs! I know Peter only through e-mails, but I am trying to make it over to his place some time soon, and take a closer look at his car. Will try to find out what he has done to the engine.

I´ve had the previlage of hearing that wonderful Dino music this summer, being just behind the black beast. That´s the only time I actually enjoyed being behind another car ;-) Wonderful!

I was delighted (and a little scared- I hope he did get oil pressure real fast) with the Dino recording... but, my oh my, did you hear the Alfa V8?

We have to assume that the Dino was well warmed up and just briefly turned off before the recording started. Still, a bit scary, I agree.

I had forgotten about the Alfa V-8. You are right, absolutely glorious sound! And, of course, this Alfa is very much in the family now. The Fiat/Alfa Romeo/Lancia/Maserati/Ferrari family, that is.

guys i dont over-rev this engine this is normal driving for me...... i have done it for 13 years with THIS engine. the gearbox is standard, it weight as a standard GTS (i think) i did never tell that site how much horsepower i have in. i dont know what hp i have it just runs like hell. i have been side to side with a slow 355 up to 3 gear and i did hear him rev hight. but that time the gearbox did not like that fast shifting....lol . when i run hard i have 4 blue flames coming out from the exhaust. i run massive 330x32 front brakes 310x28 rear i can stop this car if i need..............
the 275 owner did not want to drive to hard cuz he did not have good oil pressure at that time, he did drive on open pipes in stockholm city with me.........he he then the sound was very good

Ferrari does not have to try hard for a new Dino, just follow this one around, and then build it!
    Absolutely beautiful!

What did you do to lower your Dino? This car just sits so beautifully. Do you have any tire rubbing issues? My stock Dino with modern (square shouldered) tires rubs the inner wheel well when I turn full right. No one has been able to tell me why.

i have spend many hours and lots of dollar to make the car look like this, special coilover dampers, wheels, and tires, ground clearance is 7.5 cm on the belly pan and on sillls, this season i try to go for 6.5 cm just for the fun to lick the asphalt, its difficult to drive on normal swedish roads with deep tracks on asphalt,
no worries about the tire rubbing the inner weel well, i have that on both standard tires and the one i have on now, but you never do a full turn in 200 so its no problemas

Lars, great looking car! Here, that low, it would not work...;-)

I am curious, what is the chrome grommet above and between the driver's side taillights?

    Regards, Alberto

Alberto, I am going to let Peter (Rosso Corso Motorsport) tell us what the chrome fitting is. I was only reporting on the car. My guess is perhaps a key switch for some sort of anti-theft device?

Yes, it is a great looking car. I think it is also very interesting, because it shows how much untapped potential there is in the Dino - both in the chassis and the engine. With modern wheels, tires and brakes and some modifications to the engine, it can run with the best of more modern sports cars. Not bad for a car that was designed in the 60's!

Peter, I will definitely be there, but my Dino is still in California. Maybe next year...

Everyone else, the May 1st event Peter is talking about, is the Italian (Motor) Day at Skokloster, located about halfway between Stockholm and Uppsala. It is an informal gathering for Italian cars and motorcycles - new and old - taking place on this date every year.

Any Dino owners in central Sweden - and I know there are (supposed to be) a few of you:
Don´t be invisible. Drive your Dino (Fiats too) to the Italian Day. Spend a pleasant day surrounded by Italian machinery and enthusiastic owners!

What wheels are you using? What are the widths and the offsets? How much do the wheels (without tires) weigh? Do you need to use additional centering hubs or spacers with those wheels?

    Thank you -
