Fitting that a thread about football in St. louis turns into a baseball analogy. The Cardinals are one the best baseball franchises in history, while the Rams are completely forgettable. Aside from getting a little bit lucky* to have a collection of great players for their Superbowl year and a couple years after, they have done nothing since moving to St. Louis. *By lucky I mean Vermeil was comitted to Trent Green as QB. If Green hadn't torn his knee in pre-season '99 no one to this day may have ever heard of Kurt Warner.
St. Louis is a baseball town, no doubt about it, but believe it or not we are a strong hockey town as well. The Rams are a long way from the "greatest show on turf" era. And yes, the MVP of the 99-00 team should have been Trent Green, because had he of not gone down in the preseason, who knows how that year would have turned out. With that said, 38-3 today. Yep, the Rams suck.
At least the Rams will get a nice new stadium, though the commute will suck. http://www.losangelesfootballstadium.com/ Image Unavailable, Please Login
I remember in October last year, the Cowboys and Rams met the same day as the Cardinals and Rangers met across the street for game 4 of the WS. They had Josh Hamilton and (I think) Lance Berkman come out in full uniform to help with the coin toss. The Cowboys won that one 34-7, and later that day Derek Holland pitched a 2-hit gem in a 4-0 victory for Texas. Bad day to be an STL fan.
For the bandwagon fans at least. I was bummed the Rangers didn't win after coming to a strike away from victory twice, but it was a good hard-fought series. And I love playoff series that are like that, regardless of teams and who comes out on top.
Maybe for home games this year they should have a "free entry with any London 2012 Olympic ticket"...on second thought that was a fiasco too.
