Welcome to my world buddy. I've been feeling just that very much around these parts of late...

worst yet, you and I get painted the 'bad guys' or 'trolls' for simply pointing out objective truths with supporting evidence.

It's a bizarro world nowadays for sure.

All I know is 'change' is only going to accelerate, not slow down. So things will get much worse *if* it even does get better. We may have to accept a world where people no longer have a consensus on what truly are objective automotive facts.

See this is the point you keep missing. We’ve experienced it but it just doesn’t float our boat. No harm in that.

Personal preference doesn’t equate to ignorance.

As a car guy who appreciates performance in all of it's various forms, I've read thru this thread and found that the personal preference comments from the anti-Tesla guys come across very ignorant actually, especially from those who haven't actually had any real Tesla ownership experience.

It's pretty easy to dismiss it, I did for many years, owning 3 generations of M5s and dozens of other performance daily drivers. Didn't think it would float my boat either. But my Tesla has made a convert out of me, especially on the daily driver front.

And for reference, among a few other cars, I own an E30 M3, GT3 Touring, Pista, and currently searching for a Speciale. So yes, I still "get it".

Lots of people here who refuse to accept the future of the automobile will not include the ICE. These are the same type of people who said the horse will never be replaced, and heavier then air flight will never be possible.

I'm not talking about you specifically. There are folks here that say Ferrari should forgo electrification, I simply argue that means they would go the way of Oldsmobile. I understand they prefer it, I simply don't understand it. I always rather have a theoretically 'compromised' car than no car at all.

Interesting thread. I would never own an electric car because they are boring no matter how advanced or how fast. When I drive my original big block 66’ corvette former race car with long tube headers and the sweet smell of Sunoco 115, I love it because I can feel it, smell it and sense it. It will only do 170 but I would never dream of redline revs. Same with my 62’ fuelie, a mere 150 mph car but quite the ride in it day. I have a 69’ Landcruiser (not restored but all original) and it is ancient in technology (PTO winch and no comforts at all) compared to modern Jeeps or other makes but very fun to drive a 3 on the tree stick shift that looks like it just came out of the African bush with softop frame and all the blemishes— top speed around 70 if I really wanted but 55-60 is really max. I am in the market for a Dino; from a technology standpoint it offers little over a Tesla. That said, she is sexy, she is visceral and you can feel her (or so I imagine)— the Tesla, pretty robotic and in California, pretty common— lots of soccer moms and guys driving them who really have no true appreciation for cars— even for a technologically advanced car such as a Tesla. Really a proverbial apples to oranges comparisons but I will take the girl that moves you and all of your senses— never inexpensive but always special and never forgotten ; my 2 cents. M

I would own/drive the "slowest" Ferrari all day before owning/driving the "fastest" Tesla. Especially one with a model name that is a material pattern (although plaid skirts do have a place:) ) and has the looks of an orthopedic shoe IMO.

The average Kia or Hyundai these days is "faster" than my 355 but which would you rather own/drive?

You can put a jet engine in a shoebox and it will be "fast"- but it's still a shoebox.

    Cheers :)

Very true, that's exactly why I'll never sell either of my ICE Ferrari or Maserati. I suspect many muscle car enthusiasts have similar sentiments.
    **
That said, late model muscle car enthusiasts I've found usually have straight-line acceleration very high on their priority list.

I guess it plausible some muscle car owners for late models can take heart that they at least 'sound' good losing to family cars with kids in the back, groceries, and the dog sticking their tongue out.

Porsche currently holds the Nurburgring record with their electric car. Subaru will attempt to break it with their electric car.

In other words, all the major manufacturers are out there breaking lap records with electric cars, and folks still think this is just a 'fad.'

    :)

BTW, BP just announced their electric charging stations is about to surpass their petrol stations in profitability.

    Listen to Ferris Bueller.

Agree - I am a muscle-car enthusiast as well as sports/exotics and you are right - Straight-line speed is important as well as smoky burnouts (albeit expensive depending on tires) and certainly sound. I own a 2016 SRT Hellcat Challenger and IF I had kids (well if I had kids I would not have the cars so somewhat moot but...) there is room for them in the back seat and plenty of room for groceries in the trunk - now they might not make it home the same way you put them in there but such is the risk - ha! :) :)

EVs have their place and use conditions and cool that some manufacturers are making ridiculously fast EVs as well as some good looking ones - All good - But comparing any Tesla to any Ferrari regardless of speed is like comparing a pair of BOGO shoes from Kohls to Christian Louboutins.

    Cheers :)

I hear Tesla is Toast. Who wants a Tesla? Their models are boring. The electric car game is going in a different direction and Tesla was left in the dust. No secondary market. Might as well flush your money down a toilet.
    Time for Tesla to retool.

Loved the post MaxTension—- Doors—hell yes. I think you are correct regarding the secondary market but my issue really comes down to the style of the car not doing anything for me— not floating the boat as a previous poster stated. Lots of other reason as I have posted previously but in SoCal, Tesla’s are everywhere— have not seen a 246 yet cruising the roads. A Tesla, in my view, will never be accused of being eye candy nor show up in a car porn site— just my 2 cents.

Just a multitude of problems that surrounds Electric cars.

I think one of the major problems is the charging station. A guy gets through working all day taking **** from his boss because he forgot to file his TP report. Drives home gets out of his car and has to plug in his car. If he or she forgets they have to take the bus the next day.

You have to call out an electrician to install a 220 outlet, that's if if you want a faster charge. If you move, your out the expense of having 220 installed.

Just not enough quick charging public stations.

I think a Home Charging TRAP or Charging Platform probably is a better way to go. Drive in, pull over the device, turn off the car and you charging.

a vacuum has a Docking Station but a car doesn't.
    Head scratcher

The Electric Car is in need of a total rethink.
Going to have to get a lot lighter.(time to shave some weight) also.

Probably the way to go is to go would get all the car manufacturers to go with a smart "standard".
I would probably shut down the Tesla plants. All they are doing is creating garbage. Nothing green about them.
Probably would of been better off with an RC toy car guy in charge of that company.
    Would of been more innovative.

The practical electric cars of the future will most likely resemble this car minus the gas powered engine.
Ain't going to look like anything Tesla is making or going to make.
    Plus a few surprise options
    :)

    https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/ariel/nomad

I would probably add snap twist lock fasteners with weather panels as an option, solar charging roof, solar charging car cover, as options, as well as a few other options and surprises.

We are the 6th largest economy in the world, all by ourselves. You need us more then we need you.

All those states with low or no state tax? Guess where the money for your roads and schools comes from: Federal taxes collected from California.

Kick NY and CA out of the union and the US economy would collapse overnight.

Frankly, I could give two whits about your economy and you are taking this into P&R territory - if your "economy" is so great then whey can't you walk down the street in San Francisco without stepping on a used needle and navigating through homeless villages? The thread has to do with a specific car that on paper and in VERY controlled conditions is "faster" than any Ferrari - let's keep it to that - my comment was simply that the creator of the company that makes the car (Musk - while insanely smart and innovative) generally is not real popular in Texas for a myriad of reasons - period.

If you want to have a friendly but spirited battle about state economies and dependencies and taxes etc. then happy to bang it out in P&R.

    Cheers :)

I really think Texas would be a great move for Tesla.
He should completely move out there.
Texas could use a company like that, cutting edge

Probably the First move would be to create a viable charging cradle. Probably could be made mostly from recycled tires. Car wash system. Pull in over a hump/wheel chock. so you know your in the zone. A relatively portable stand alone charging system that can be moved if you move. Capable of 110 and 220.
