When I was a kid, our house was one of the last houses on the approach to runway 30 in Long Beach, CA (LGB). I remember plenty of PSA 727's and 737's as well as Hughes Airwest and their all yellow DC-9s and 727's.

I was searching craigslist the other day for something totally different and stumbled across this bag. I'm guessing it's from the 70's. I don't know why, but I had to have it. Maybe it reminds me of my childhood.

I flew Hughes Airwest once, in the summer of 1980, from Seattle to Salt Lake City. It was on a 727, and I remember that SLC still didn't have Jetways at that time! You could tell what was coming: all the flight attendants were wearing "Republic" buttons.

Love it! I spent many happy years to-ing and fro-ing SJC - LAX - SNA on both! Tho Hughes did get the nickname "Hughes Air Worst" from some unhappy commuters.......

Cabin crew on both were great; lots of humor (waaay back when you could get away with that sort of thing). Best thing was $27 each way......pocket change!!

Another good one was RenoAir; upgrade to first at the counter for $25! Book of 5 for $100.
