It looks like BMW is going to make an M5 Wagon and it will come to the United States. A V-10 and 500HP in a station wagon? I love it!!!!! See link for the complete story: http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=103566 Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's bad@ss!!!! I've always preferred wagons to sedans for small to mid-size cars. I don't like the E60 M5 much, but this Touring version is changing my mind. I still think BMW dropped the ball by not making the E39 M5 Touring, although a few do exist... Edit: Are they sure it's an M5t? I know it has the 4 exhaust tips, but not the side grills in the front fenders. Someone in Japan made an E60 Touring M5-look so I think these pics might not be of BMW's own car, someone's custom.
Mercedes also brought a limited number of E55 wagons in last year. I drove one at the local dealer and it was unreal Faster then a corvette and you could bring your whole family and dog with you. Erik
In Roundel a few months ago there was talk of an E90 M3 Touring (ie. wagon) also. That would be more my size (and price). Don't know if it'll happen ... but can't see why not. There is going to be an E90 M3 sedan. That much is certain.
I never had understood the traditional station wagon? Since it still seats only 5 and has about the same size trunk area, what advantage does it have over a regular 4 door sedan?
Audi and Benz...plus i think the aformentioned companies might be expecting a return of people buying wagons instead of SUVs..not like the 55 or M5T get good mileage though, lol...
The cargo area is usually way bigger than a sedan trunk, especially when you fold the seats flat. Also an optional third row of seats can add a couple of passengers. Wagons are usually slightly more aerodynamic too, and much more fun and practical than an SUV.
The wagon might have a similar trunk area, but a much larger trunk volume. The volume can be measured, of course, by my all-time favorite C&D metric, the number of beer cases stowed.
Precisely. It's very difficult for me to pack my drumset in a sedan. The bass drum alone will rarely fit into the opening of a trunk. People with dogs also like station wagons, but I am personally against pets in cars.
personally i have always loved beamers with a wagon style body. This thing just looks awesome. Cant be much slower than the sedan either.
