So far, 1963. Would love to pick some up from the 40’s in the future.

Tawny ports are aged 10 or more years in casks before being bottled. Vintage ports are aged only two years in casks.

There are several styles of port - tawny, ruby, late bottle vintage, vintage, etc... Vintage port is considered the best. Vintages are declared generally only two or three times a decade. A bottle of good vintage port from the 1930s will set you back a couple grand or more.

Also, port wine must come from the Duoro Valley in Portugal.

Thanks, any thoughts on what I have? It’s probably not good as the level is down an inch or so. Guess the angels are still taking their share.
    Would it be worth anything?

Edit... no idea where our family got it, it’s been on a shelf forever and now it’s with me.

I wouldn’t worry about the level being down a bit at all. I’ve had many Vintage Ports that were the same and they were still excellent.

You should give this place a call in Miami:
    https://www.oldliquors.com/

They specialize in older wines and might be able to tell you more about what you have.

Is the judgement on declaring a vintage based on the quality / quantity of grapes for that particular year? Are non-vintage ports a blend of grapes from more than one harvest? Thanks...T

A house will declare a vintage for only their best years (quality) - generally only 2-3 times per decade. They come from one harvest but may come from multiple vineyards with the exception of some “Quinta” ports (Quinta do Noval, Dow’s Quinta do Bomfim, etc.) Less than 2% of all port wine is classified as vintage port.

This is what I like to see! Hopefully we can get together and enjoy port or wine sometime in 2021!

Deal! We’ll take a spin in the Bentley followed by a nice bottle of vintage port!

Was in Portugal late 2019 and began to sample and then collect. Will send a photo when back near my collection. I love going to the tastings in Lisbon and then deciding what fits my flavor profile. Highly recommend going, pandemic ending of course.

WOW - love Quinto Do Noval... I love Port ... sadly just have not been drinking as much lately ... need to start back up. I have some old Fonseca, and a bottle of 1897 Maderia... that one has a CO2 coravin on it. so far its been great!

Heard back from Old Liquors... they said there is no market for Australian Port and to drink it. Think I'll keep it on the shelf a while longer - it's almost at the century mark.

I bought a bottle of 1970 Dow's when I turned 40 in 2010. It was good, it needed decanting tho.

I hadn’t considered decanting port. Makes sense. I have some 80yr old.
