My '66 eType FHC just painted this week after being in restoration for a year. Excited to finally reach this stage. New color is Opalescent Gunmetal Grey.
That's going to be beautiful! Is that the original color? I recently picked up this '66 FHC at an estate sale. It's a nice solid car. No rust, original engine & trans. It had been in storage for 20 years. I replaced the rubber bits, ball joints and rod ends, rebuilt the carbs, replaced the throttle linkage and installed a SS exhaust. It has good compression and runs really strong and smooth. It's really a pleasure to drive, I forgot how light and nimble these feel. This is my second E Type, I had a '67 OTS long ago and it was such a nice car I always figured I'd get another. I had the itch for a FHC this time. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi, In real life, it's impossible to see the difference between Opalescent Gunmetal and Opalescent Silver Grey in photos. Only the later was available for 4.2's from factory unless a special order, also BRG was NOT a standard colour for 4.2's in 1964-1966, only the Opalescent Dark Green, both of which get mistaken in about 9 out of 10 cases, as people call metalic grays "gunmetal" and dark green Jags as being BRG. 885005 and 885002 were originally Opalescent Gunmetal and 850003 was originally BRG (only 38 3.8's out of ca. 18.000 cars were BRG from the factory) and that is why so many people either think that is the right colour, or just lust for one in that colour. IMO E-types look great in ANY colour, even Sable, Willow Green, Sherwood Green, Heather, Tuquoise, Azure Blue, Greensand, Cotswold Blue to name a few depending on vintage. Cheers, Pekka T. Fin.
Hi - It's not the original color. According to the heritage certificate, it was originally cream I believe. Then someone later painted her black, and then she was opalescent silver by the time that I bought her. When I took her into restoration I thought of returning back to the original color for the sake of it but realized I don't love cream/white on eType coupes so I decided to do Opalescent Gunmetal grey for her new color. I will post more pics later when she's complete and I pick her up, perhaps in about a month. Rio

I got smart, I let someone else restore it over board then wait 6 months and pay 60 cents on the dollars, my days of restoring are long gone. Its gratifying but I moved up the chain, where do I mail the check! Every day is a holiday now....
I've seen your car in Steve's shop. It's lovely. My BRG flat floor OTS was in his shop a couple months ago.
