    I have a 85 308qv euro. No smog pump no cats. I don't think it has any emission on it at all. I have no fast idle when cold if that means anything. I have read a few threads on this but didn't see a answer for me. The yellow low temp light doesn't come on. I have a thing about trying to have everything work. I think I'm the 4 owner. Don't know if one of them disconnected it somewhere or the switch is not turning it on. I don't know where it gets it signal from. Maybe the temp switch under the intake? I don't find any switch or wires connected to my coolant tank. I checked the bulb, its good. It has 2 black wires and 1 blue wire going to it. I checked it with a test light and it has ground all the time. With one end of the test light to a positive and touch the blue wire with the other end the light comes on. I don't know what the valve coming out of the right side of the upper intake is for? I don't know what the valve under the coolant tank is for? Thanks Dave

    My Qv yellow light comes on when I turn on the interior ventilation fans. Check yours.
    In my older 81 gtsi the yellow light indicated cool engine and went out when car was warmed up. Don't think Qv euro or US does this.

    That thingy you show in the picture with blue on the intake plenum is the cold start injector that squirts extra fuel to cold start.

    The valve under the tank controls extra air to intake system. When warmed up by the tank it opens iirc thus leaning out the mixture. Or the other way around I'm not sure.

    Thanks that cleared up a few things. Should I have a fast idle when cold? The orange yellow light on the top left lets me know if I have interior ventilation fans on. The bright yellow light on the top right is to tell me that the engine is still cold. I wonder if I'm to have 12v to the blue wire all the time? Then when it reaches temperature the sender stops sending a ground to turn the light off?

    Don't know about your orange lamp? I guess euro has this feature, my us spec 85 doesn't

    I think I gave you wrong info on the valve under the tank. It may be controlled by voltage during warm up. It's been a while and I don't remember but someone here will correct me. Guys......,
    It's called the auxiliary air valve. There is a thermo switch also connected to the tank involved in cold starting as well.

    Yes, but not a hugely high one. The AAV should let in a little extra air (which draws in extra corresponding fuel) immediately after cold start-up, but by about this time of year in TX it might not be too noticeable.

    No such indicator on a euro version -- you need a euro 308QV 248/82 OM.

    Auxiliary air valve: it lets air bypass the throttle plate when cold so that the car will idle a little higher when cold. It has a little heater in it so that even if the engine doesn't warm it up over time the little heater inside it will. It is a simple bi-metallic strip that operates a shutter.

    My car doesn't have this. Does the light come on when the spare is in the car or when it is missing?

    I put a link for the euro Qv and I'm guessing that if you don't have the rear window defrost then the upper right indicator is a spare as indicated in the manual .

    Euro cars do not have rear window defrost, not even in - paying - option. In fact, even in cold winters, the defroster is not needed: there is a big hot lump of an engine just beneath the window that provides ample heat...

    I do not have a rear window defroster. I wonder if any one has a schematic showing me where that blue and black wires are going. If its a spare as the manual shows, I my hook it up to tell me when my radiator fans come on.

    Yeah, my owners manual is for a us 308. That's what came with the car when I bought it. They must have lost the original one.

    Bummer. They do come up for sale on eBay from time to time. It's worth the investment to have the correct manual for your car.

    Thanks guys for all the help. I went to Paul's site and bought his wiring diagrams. Very nice and I can read them not like the small print in the owners manual. They are color coded and you can enlarge them. You can see all the 308 and 328 us and euro wiring diagrams there. Great job Paul. After looking at the different years. The 83 308qv euro uses that light for a low temp light. The 85 it is a spare light as mentioned above.The black wire is ground and the blue wire just stops not connected to anything. I may hook it up to the radiator fan relay letting me know the cooling fans are on.

    I don't think so -- all '82-'86 euro 308QV use the same 248/82 OM (i.e., there isn't any other euro 308QV OM). 1983 US version 308QV probably do because they have the same engine management system as the US 308i-2V.

    Steve I was wrong. I went back and looked at Paul's wiring diagrams again. 82 qv euro shows it to be a spare, 83 qv US shows it to be cold engine light, 84 qv US shows it to be a slow down light, 85qv euro to be a spare as what I have. Hope I'm looking at it right this time off of the wiring diagrams. Confusing for me on how they kept making changes. On to the clock next.

    Hum mm..........don't think so. Slow down warning is usually red round indicator near bottom of panel center or square red lights on dash by steering column.
