Are they taking away land? Does your land go all the way to the water? I wouldn't really have a problem as long as it's marked "No Trucks Allowed" (except emergency trucks).

The two Adirondack Chairs make the ultimate statement in that picture.

    Very, very nice.

They are not taking land, but they are demanding a public permission to pass without compensation. Our property line to the West is 'mean high-tide'. Technically, I could deny permission to pass, but that's nothing I would ever consider. What the California Coastal Commission wants is public permission to pass to the "...first line of vegetation...". I only have a problem with this because it is a vague definition, and in the event of a severe storm/ or small tsunami that washed away the vegetation, the public would then have legal access directly in front of the house. Understandably, this troubles me.
If they were to re-phrase (I only have this verbally, no documentation yet) and request permission to pass say 50' above mean high tide, I would have no real concerns.
We'll see how it goes. It will not become an issue until the construction is complete and I want my 'Certificate of Occupancy' from the county.

Through the years, most of the people in the construction business I have dealt with, have a rather elongated sense of completion time. Example; 'The job will take 2 weeks, tops.' And they finally finish 2 months later. In your case, I hope it only takes 4-5 months. But, my guesstimate is that they will really finish in 6-7 months. Good luck, you have some beautiful coastline. Keep us updated with the progress.

I'm laughing!!! I'm a building contractor, and we are trained by the State to drag projects out WAY past the realm of reason--it's a requirement! :):)
