... for most dilusional. F1 News - F1 Brazilian Grand Prix: Alonso: I can choose where I want to go He's making it very hard for me to like him. Sure... he can pick where and what he wants to drive next year... as long as it's a McLaren (maybe) or maybe a riding mower in his backyard. Let's see... Red Bull... nope Mercedes... nope Williams... nope Ferrari... doubtfull... well... nope Suaber... nope Lotus... perhaps Caterham... nope So I guess as long as you pic the one that's available to you... i guess that you can actually choose where you want to go.
I think he's right. Perhaps not until someone elses contract is up, or even that could be broken with buckets of cash, but he pretty much, like a very few others, decides his destiny.
+1 All of those teams would make room for him if he said "I want to drive for your team." First of all, he's one of the only two or three drivers that are clearly head and shoulders above the rest. Second of all, the entire country of spain is essentially his sponsor and he would bring huge money to the table (not his own, but OPM, the best kind). One could argue he's burned his Ferrari bridge, but even then I could see Ferrari wanting him back. The most unlikely team might be Mercedes, but I think they would drop Nico in a heartbeat if it looked like Alonso was really serious.
Let's see...with 3-car teams Red Bull... yep Mercedes... yep Williams... yep Ferrari... probably not Suaber... yep Lotus... yep Caterham... nope
half the guys on here are going to have a conniption fit where you insult their lord and savior alonso.
problem is, do they have the 20 or 30 mil to fork over for him? most no. merc doesnt have to, red bull have and can...the rest simply dont have the cash, and are not really in a positionnto win titles. mclaren can (sort of) and i believe they have made the offer, of at least 20.
Alonso is a shady and poisonous character. A driver needs to be the whole package to be desirable to a team, not just have driving ability. He'll be trouble wherever he goes IMO, but that'd only happen when he realizes he's not worth what he thinks he is. Plus he's on his way out, so not a good gamble for most teams. We'll find out soon enough what happens to him .
Shyeah! - Right! - What team in their right mind would want Alonso? He'll be turning up for work at Woking in 2015, that's what's going to happen to him!: Eric Boullier says Fernando Alonso is talking to McLaren directly rather than Honda | Sky Sports
