Never really was a fan, but I did always respect them for their originality. Plus, some of the songs did make me want to rock out.

If they came back now, they'd probably get too commercialized. Because they're gone, they kind of have an aura.

What ever happened to del la Rocha? I remember he did some spoken word stuff (never really got into it), but hopefully he is still doing something because he is incredibly talented.

Audioslave FTW (Tom Morello is brilliant)

He actually isn't doing anything really. Saw a recent pic of him and Tom hanging out, so at least they are on good terms.
    What does FTW mean?

Zach isn't doing anything. He was trying to get into hip/hop, but I don't think it worked out for him.

God I miss that band. They were one of the best bands ever. Audioslave blows. What a corporate piece of **** that band is. Irritates me.

This guy, on one of the audio forums I subscribe to said he was practicing with his band one day and heard what sounded like thunder coming a few spaces down. They went there to see what all the noise was about, and it was Rage doing rehearsals. Said it was the loudest and biggest sounding band he's ever heard practice.

LOL, funny you say that considering that Soundgarden were huge Rage fans and Rage were huge Soundgarden fans. They approached Cornell about doing some jam sessions to see what would happen and all parties liked the results. Thinking Audioslave is corporate is laughable at best!

I find it humorous that there is a contingent of Soundgarden fans who want Soundgarden back and a contingent of Rage fans who want Rage back, both groups of fans unable to appreciate that Audioslave is a completely different band altogether. Many just can't get over the fact that both of those amazing bands are no more.

Feel free to check these quick vids to see if you still think 'corporate' when you see them. A shame if you do!

    2 Audioslave Songs:
    Set if off(live) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGZeJKiNdYc
    Gasoline(live) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEh5yS0ZjJE

    2 Covers of previous works:
Hunger Strike(live, temple of the dog cover) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_nAF_8dhQw
Sleep now in the Fire(live, Rage cover) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nh2xm33YKRA

The band respects the member's previous works but also places them in a time that has passed. Fun to watch regardless :)

I think Audioslave sounds like Chris singing over Rage. It is what it is. I personally don't like the band at all, and think it's some corporate record label exec's idea of a "great new way to market a rock band". Don't you find it interesting that Audioslave and Velvet Revolver came out around the same time? In reality, it was Rick Rubin who is responsible for the Audioslave connection. He is the one who suggested Chris sing with "ex-Rage", and what was left of Rage always wanted to be just a rock band anyway. They never really dug all the hip/hop'esq vocals of Zach, which is what led to the bands demise in the first place. I think it's that push/pull that made Rage what it was. It's that inner fight. Makes for killer music.

Personally, I think the "mash-up" bands suck. Audioslave has good players, sure, and a great singer, sure, but their music is just cookie cutter rock **** IMO. Same with Velvet Revolver. Not diggin it.

Many say that about the first album, which is understandable for a few of the songs! The second album was much more mellow and happens to be my least favorite album of the three. The newly released third album returned to much more of a rock base and is a nice progression that is more uniquely Audioslave in sound.
Actually, Audioslaved formed and wrote songs well before Velvet Revolver. I'll get into it in a bit.
Rubin knew both bands pretty well. Cornell had been doing solo work in 2000 and was wanting to do something else. But he had been approached by countless bands looking to score his unmistakeable voice. Nothing quite appealed to him until Rubin suggested that the guys get together for a jam session. Interestingly enough Rage had always been huge Soundgarden fans and Soundgarden were big Rage fans. They had actually met several times and got together really well. When the jam session came about it was a virtual no brainer. In fact, they ended up writing 19 songs in just 21 days. Which is hardly the type of 'manufactured' crap one would get from some corporate exec twitching his mustache :)
I have read a ton about the band and interviews suggest that Zach was pretty much a control freak. It took months and even years to get albums together and he would argue about arrangements night and day. Fights and short fuses eventually spelled the end of the band. In fact, Audioslave has recorded and released as much material as Rage did, in only a few short years.
Much agreed 99.9% of the time!

I can't stand Velvet Revolver as well. Not very much originality in the mix. I'll post one more song real quick if you don't mind checking it out at some point. It is off of the new album and, like Rage, is political in nature.

Anyways, I hope your ears find it pleasing :)
