I got my Diablo today and found some issues with it..hopefully they won't be major.

    1. The dash or "bonnet" that holds all the speedo and tach is way too hard to see over. This is really annoying because I can't see what is in front of me. Who did this design??? I am surprised it passed DOT.

My fix: I think I will take the dash/bonnet off and have it cut back to about 1 " away from the gauges and have it rewrapped in leather and stiched. That should give me about 5-7 more inches of windsheild visability. Do you think this is a bad idea? It will look nice after it's re wrapped.

    2. Clutch is soo damn hard to push down. This is going to need to be changed or the pedals need to be modded. I don't know what my fix will be, but I am waiting for my foot to recover.

    3. I had a left check engine light come on today and I tested it and it came back with 1 flash which is saying it' s a dead O2? Not sure...anyone have the part number for the 92 diablo?

    4. No power steering....makes it real hard to turn corners when you are used to power and having the damn dash block your visabilty doesn't help either.

other than that I like the car. It put a smile on me when I first saw it.

I kinda of think maybe I should have gone with the 94 VT Diablos. Oh well to late...lesson learned and I will make do with what I have now....

    Easy fix:

    1. I made a cut pod. I bought a used pod for about $100 and cut it down almost flush with the instrument panel. The pod is fiberglass and easy to shape with dremel. Then had it covered in leather. When I do concours I swap back to the original. Takes about 30 minutes to switch pods. You can also upgrade to a VT dash for about $3K but you will loose one gauge.
You can also elevate the seat rail with 1" rails.

    2. I'm converting my car to power steering this week with an electrical pump that can be mounted in the front trunk, hidden in a box, or anywhere you see fit. As we go along I'll take pix and my mechanic will make a template or kit for any 2WD car that wants to do the same. Stay tuned. I got a used power steering rack from Lambo Dallas...it's a TRW rack and I rebuilt it for about $100. The pump is about $600 with built in reservior. We have to fabricate some custom high pressure hoses and are building some other goodies :)

    3. Wait till the clutch goes and replace with a new triple plate. I know of a company that has a clutch with 70% less pedal pressure. I believe the stock clutch is 120 pounds. Pedal are close for heel-toe. You can mod them, but I got use to them when pulling up to a light I literally put my feet together then depress.

    4. One flash is rare.. follow the wire and make sure it's plugged in. It's a standard bosch. Two flashes are common with tubi or no cats.

    5. You did not mention blind spot... I cut convex mirrors into my side mirrors to get 180 degrees from each side mirror.... no blind spot at all !

Im sure allot of people wish they had those things to hate.

Personally with the Dash, i'd go the VT route if you can, the old dash's really look bulky and awkward, and the VT dash looks so much more complete, rather than a stick on.

#1. Any car you purchase, is going to have some items, that you do not care for.

#2. More important for this particular thread ! - It will take awhile for (you), to adjust to the car. It is a little more difficult to transition to a Diablo, vs an airport econobox. Give it some time, and you will feel quite natural to the car.

Yes the steering is work. However have you had the opportunity, to drive the car on fast back roads ? At fast speeds around back roads, the car will feel very good.

Personally, I like a stiff clutch, and manual steering.

    Enjoy your beautiful car !

Frank, any chance you could post photos of your side mirrors? I'd love to see how it looks as the blind spot issue exists in Murcielagos too.

Did you purchase without buying or seeing as i'm surprised you are only mentioning things like the dash at this late stage. The only reason i didnt go for a 92 or 93 etc was because of the dash pod. Big cost saving on a 94 VT though. I've decided to leave the early model and go for a 96 VT but things are just taking so long with regards other things in my life.

Hope you enjoy, I'm sure you will.

    Regards,

    Matthew

    PS. post some pics

Glenn - I just took this pix and it's hard to see how it works, but here's how to do it.
    1. I bought a plexiglass convex safety mirror off the net. Get a 12"-18" saftey mirror (the kind used in warehouses to see around blind spots). About $50.

    2. Get some Glad Cling Wrap (clear) and stick it on the glass part of the mirror.

    3. Outline the mirror with a magic marker. Then cut out the pattern.

    4. Take the pattern you just made and transpose it to a piece of cardboard.

    5. Take the cardboard battern and outline it on the mirror.

    6. Cut the mirror. I tried with a dremel and it did not cut very clean. I had a lot of room left on the orginal mirror, so I drew a second pair and went to a sign shop that works with plexiglass and they cut it for me. $20

Each mirror gives 180 (actually 160) but you have no blind spot and can even see the car next to you in the side mirror.

Stick it on with double sided tape - I can attest they stay on at 186mph :)

Mans it sounds rough to be a Diablo owner:rolleyes::D

I think after you get use to the clutch and no power items you will learn to enjoy them...Best of luck with the car.
