    Just seeing who flips out in the middle of the night when they hear weird noises. Nothing ever startled me until I moved out to the sticks. For the first couple of years, I'd freak at 2AM hearing a THUMP on my deck outside the master BR and any strange noise. Now it's like "That must have been another bear"!

    I do.

    Two years ago we moved into a new house. The bugs had not been worked out. Apparently this first winter squirrels had made entrance into attic near a poorly fitted gutter and it so happened that the upstairs furnace area of the ceiling had a gap just big enough for one of the little ****ers to get actually into the house.

    It actually was on the covers of our bed, my wife felt it and jumped, throwing it off the bed and into the wall right next to me.

    You haven't lived until your wife turns on the light to see a little bushy tail streaking across the floor into her closet. Suffice to say she made noises from the bed I had never heard before or since.

    (BTW, caught it and released outside unharmed.)

    Any noise...she is awake. Two years later. The closet with the furnace is still called the squirrel room.

    I've slept through two major earthquakes- Big Bear in '89 (yes, I was up there) and Northridge in '94. Short of the sun rising, someone screaming in my face or a gunshot in the house I pretty much don't wake up for anything.. and nobody has tried the last two, FWIW.
