I am on duty to show a friend of mine the area, I admit I usually do the aquarium and relax, and not much else!

I was thinking we'd take a day and do Big Sur, but want to give her a good slice of the area.

Planning to stay in the Highlands Inn in carmel highlands (a favorite) but open to other suggestions.

    Best!
    Ben.

definitely go walk around pebble beach. I'd wait until sunset when the golfers are off the course though - the 18th hole is a great walk... Wait is this a girl or a guy? Sunset on the 18th of pebble with another dude might be, well, it goes without saying.

I am usually playing golf or looking at cars when I'm there, but the walk from Fisherman's Wharf to Cannery Row is nice. She might like to walk around Carmel and just browse the shops, too. 17 mile drive with a stop at Pebble or Spanish Bay or both, a trip to Big Sur, and you are out of time.

Get to Roy's at Spanish Bay before 5:00 p.m. and secure a couple seats by one of the fire pits out back on the terrace. Order a Dalwhinnie and a Guinness back with an appetizer (well, that's what I had last time I was there) and wait for the bagpiper to come strolling up from the golf course. He starts around 5:00 somewhere out on the golf course, plays as he strolls along towards the terrace, and then plays for a bit out in the heathers near the terrace. He stops playing at or very near 6:00 p.m. You may want to call Spanish Bay to verify the times (web pages indicating he plays "at sunset" are incorrect). If it is cold and misty, it's all the more surreal, so unless the weather is totally hellish, she should dig it regardless. Oh, and Roy's will validate your 17 mile drive entrance fee, too.

Take a drive around Pacific Grove out to the point and around to The Fish Wife Restaurant. Great food and very popular with locals. Not fancy but very good and reasonable. Also Fisherman's Wharf is fun and Abalonetti Seafood Trattoria Restaurant for Dining on Fisherman's Wharf is a great place for calamari! Spend a lot of time strolling up and down Ocean Ave. in Carmel, check our the gallaries and shops, it can be an all day affair. There is an unending list of things to do in that area. Enjoy it fully!

Ben, take your friend on a drive down south on Highway One from Carmel to Big Sur, the 30-mile route is spectacular. Stop by http://www.nepenthebigsur.com/ for lunch, don't miss the apple pie a la mode. Drive down south for another 6-8 miles you'll be at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=578, the McWay Waterfall is quite something to see. After that just have a leisure drive back to Carmel and you might want to catch the sunset at the Carmel Beach. Point Lobos State Reserve is right around Highlands Inn, a worthy place to visit. China Cove inside the reserve has a quiet beach, water is calm and jaded green, just spectacular. Have fun! Oh yes, take your fun car for Highway One.

Go to the Lodge at PB and have a drink in the lobby. It has big windows that look out onto the 18th fairway and nice comfy chairs.

The Beef and Oyster Pie with Guiness sauce at the Muck Duck in Monterey is pretty good.

Depending on what car you have a drive AROUND the Bigsby Bridge (the famous bridge on HWY 1 in Big Sur). There is a dirt raod that goes back into the canyon and has some GREAT scenery.

    Hi Ben,
If you have time and are showing someone the area, I would go to the aquarium, then do the rest of cannery row. Take a quick drive over to Fisherman's Wharf spend an hour there. After that I would drive along the Pacific Grove coast on Ocean View Blvd. Then do 17 mile drive on Pebble Beach, then head to Carmel by the Sea, lots to see there, then hop back in the car get on HW1 and head south along the coast towards the Highlands Inn.
