I have found what I hope to be a good deal. The major hurdle is it's 800+ miles away. So I have to get everything together in one inspection. I know a fair bit about cars, did lot's of work on my '69 Mach1, change the pads on my wife's Beemer, etc. So I know my way around. I'm going to pull a Carfax on it. The 3rd owner, has limited service receipts, some work has been done by a dealership and some by an independent. The engine came out in '03, for the belt, and replacing of valve parts... (Around $12,000 for this) and a minor service in October($6,000). 36,000 miles on the car. The owner confesses to: Dash shrinkage. Cracked (aligator style) seats tubi exhaust Things I read in the service history that concern me... Replaced mismatched coil springs Replaced shocks (owner provided used units)?? Sway bar mounting stud repaired (including welding)?? Anywayz the help I need from you guys/gals is, I know every car has it's quirks, and not having owned one ...yet I don't know what to look out for. Can you guys help? I'll add new facts as they surface in the CarFax It's a Black 95 F355B. Born in California when to Charleston, then on to Oregon. Repair facilities involved... European Road and Racing in NC Tonkin Ferrari in Portland ATD in Portland Anyone know this car?
is this the vin #? ZFFPR41AXS0100498 if so, the car is listed as a salvage title on carfax, just checked it again, and he's been trying to sell it for over a year now. Seriously, how many 1995 black 355s with 36,000 miles on it are for sale in Portland at any given time? Don't waste the $30. Might be a good car, as long as you're paying way under the market value for a non-salvage 355. Hate to be a negative-nancy, just trying to save you an 800 mile drive/flight and possible thousands of $$ in repair work. Oh yeah, things to look out for, I'm sure others will add more... Catalytic converters replaced with better aftermarket version headers replaced by better aftermarket/rebuilt ones valve guides checked/replaced exhaust upgrade compression/leakdown test interior issues (look beyond what the seller admits) try doing a search, I am too tired to list all the stuff I had to check before buying mine. Again, good luck, and remember, a salvage title will take along time to resell, so make sure you want to keep/track the car until the wheels fall off!
I think If you do a search the guys made a sweet check List on problems to look for, when buy a f355 .
When I had my 348TB, I had my mechanic (independent) install a "cup" style suspension kit (from Japan) on it. Later on, after I had sold the car, the guy took it to an Official Ferrari Shop to get everything inspected. They basically categorized the cup style kit as "mismatched coil springs" since it wasn't an official suspension from the dealership. Take this info for whatever its worth, hope it helps man. G'luck!
